After a careful reading, I'll try that - on the Glo first, just in case.

I've just upgraded from a Kobo Glo to a Kobo Glo HD. I pre-ordered it on 24th May, it was officially released here in the UK on Monday, and my unit arrived on Friday.
It's basically the same size as the Glo - very slightly wider, shorter, thinner and lighter but not that you'd notice. The branding is more discrete. I never used the SD slot on the Glo so don't miss it here. I do like the grippy back; I don't like the slippery front and that's my only minor complaint. I haven't been bothered by the shiny inner bezel yet. The power button would benefit from a more positive feel. Of course the screen is very good. Inkier, with a whiter front light, and ridiculously high resolution. That said, I still think the Kobo Glo screen is very good and I think I prefer its slightly rougher texture, but that's a very minor point. The software is basically the same. It seems to be doing some aggressive power management - it takes a short while to respond to taps or swipes if you haven't touched the screen in a few moments. It's not necessarily a huge upgrade from the Glo but I'll take the better screen. I suppose I would have been prepared to pay up for a more premium unit - a Kindle Voyage for the Kobo ecosystem - but I understand that they are trying to undercut Amazon on pricing and the compromises they've made here are all sensible, without compromising on the screen. |

Just arrived!
So, I picked up the Glo HD this morning, and paid the VAT 23% + a 15 euros processing fee! It was sent via Express Courier which was nice and unexpected.
The good news is that I am totally impressed with the unit so far. I liked the Glo although I found it a bit "glo-y" for my eyes at times, and I'd switch to a K3 for awhile. The Glo HD is perfect! Wonderful screen and font, a bit shadier background than the Glo, even lighting, easy to hold. It upgraded to 3.15 when I initialized it - but page turns are speedy - better than the Glo or K3. Really fast for kobo epubs, epubs and even the mobi book that I tried out. I did try to convert a book to kepub on calibre, but the device didn't recognize it at all. I wouldn't even bother again since the regular epubs work just fine. I do not do much font adjusting, and usually read relatively small fiction books with little formatting, never use a dictionary or annotations, so I cannot speak to advanced uses. The problem is the Kobo-brand case for the Glo HD that I bought for $30. It looks and feels great. I put the unit in it and then noticed that the reset hole is covered. I am scared to remove the device, afraid of damaging it, and I just hope that I never have to reset the unit! I can't even think of removing the device to try to return the case to Canada...totally not worth the risk or expense. Any suggestions would be welcome. |

But let's just hope the firmware is so incredibly stable that we never have to reset it. ![]() |

The device is totally powered off. If I then keep it again long pressed (like turning on) but for again 15 seconds,it seemsnothing happens and the device will not poered on/of Then I shortly press the on and off button, the device resets without using the pin. I don't know for sure if it needs the second long press,maybe it just resets when, after the long press which turn it off,it is shortly pressed but I keep this sequence and it works. So with the device on,1: keep long pressed until the unit wents off,but keep pressing the button even when it is off. 2. Do the same like you will press it on, the unit doesn't react when you press it long,that is just what we want. 3. Push the on/off button short, the unit resets. No pin needed ![]() |

@Gabriel.Voyager
Hmmmm, so what am I doing wrong? I installed the same plug-in as you. Used Convert Books to convery epub book to kepub. Saved the kepub file to disk. One time created an "epub" and an "original epub". Second time (and now again) created a ".kepub" extension file. I copied the .kepub file to the Glo HD and it just didn't show up in the Library. Calibre didn't recognize the GloHD, perhaps I need to upgrade? Not a big deal in any case. What did I do wrong? Perhaps I should delete the .kepub file extension, before copying it to the ereader? Again, not a big deal, but would be good to know. |

That's way more work than you need to do. I use the plug in, which converts on the fly....while sending to the device. I don't save the kepub anywhere. The only place it exists is on the device.
Use Calibre to convert/send. That's all you need to do. Just enable the extended plugin. (I will double check after I am done sending some books_. Yes, just be sure under Preferences, Plugins, Device Interface Plugins ---- the Kobo Touch Extended by Joel G is enabled. Disable the plugin above it. Then you may need to restart Calibre. After that, send a book, disconnect and check it. It should have been delivered as kepub. Quote:
