Really? I'd be more inclined to pick up such a hitchhiker, I think. We'd probably have plenty to talk about while driving and they might even give me one or two in exchange for the lift.

Every now and then we drive down to Brisbane to my brother's for the weekend, mostly so I can get what The Loved One calls my "Borders fix". Inevitably, and regardless of ebook availability, I come out with bags full. I love book-browsing/shopping, especially in a decent store (everything's too small around here - I've been spoilt by living in Sydney for so many years).

I sat next to a guy on the plane who was reading one of tem "p-books." He didn't have to turn it off when the plane took off. Wow.

I went on a brief Christmas trip with my wife and her parents. Every morning they would leave these large folded pieces of printed paper outside the door of the room. They called them "newspapers" even if the stuff printed on them was yesterday's news. I guess they would be good for housebreaking a pet, lining a trash can, or wrapping a fish.

There is a new sport in town, you ride llamas and use these long mallets to wallop squirrels. The first side to wallop the squirrel into the Squirrel-A-Rator (a product of Montsnmags Enterprises, Ltd, SA) gets a point. First team to 10 points wins.

It's okay, desertgrandma. At half time they reverse ends, and the squirrels play full-body-contact soccer-billiards using the two-legs. You'll never guess what they use as squirrel-scale billiard balls(*).

Not to worry DG, the local president of the ASPCA was out there today whacking squirrels with the best of them. She said that as long as we don't hit the llamas my mistake it was "great fun" as squirrels are not a protected class of animals.

The biggest problem with the game gaining popularity is that it does not have a catchy name. They tried "Squirrel-Polo" and that went over as well as a 32,000 pound lead balloon.
