I don't think that plan is available any more. At least, I don't see it. My account is on hold til 7/02, maybe that's why. Can anyone else see that plan as an option?

It's still available. I just cancelled a promo offer and it was one of the enticements Audible offered to get me to stay on board. I declined it.

Thanks. So, there's no real advantage to having that plan, if one doesn't have a stash of credits, as far as I can see. (Their occasional sales seldom interest me).

That's pretty much it. If you don't have credits and don't do the member sales, it makes no sense to have the $10 membership plan.

And I'm hoping that, having cancelled the plan, I'll eventually be able to take advantage of one of those "$1 for three months" offers they have had from time to time.

$3.98 Whispersync Deal! A Champion Skydiver Tells What Skydiving Has Taught Him.
The ebook is a Kindle Daily Deal. Being pretty unfamiliar with how those work, I don't know if the markdown actually expires at the end of the day or not. If so, this deal is good for about 6 more hours. I thought that it was good enough deal to go ahead and post it even if it ends soon.
Here it is, short and sweet (hopefully): Above All Else: A World Champion Skydiver's Story of Survival and What It Taught Him About Fear, Adversity, and Success. A 4.9, from 148 reviews at the present moment! $1.99 Ebook + $1.99 Whispersync audio = $3.98. This is a great value. The ebook is a good length--352 pages--so that will yield an audio of corresponding good length. Go here to get the ebook or the whole deal: http://www.amazon.com/Above-All-Else...7CSM44DD67WBBT. My take on the ebook? I think that I can learn all that I need to about fear, adversity, and success without jumping out of an airplane. ha. |

On the Trail of Genhis Khan--Own the Audio AND Ebook for Only $5.98, Thanks to WS.
"WS" is Whispersync.
The full title of the ebook/audiobook is On the Trail of Genghis Khan: An Epic Journey Through the Land of the Nomads. It's by Tim Cope. The ebook is rated 4.5 stars, from 84 reviews at the present moment. It is the "Grand Prize Winner, Banff Mountain Festival Book Competition." I listened to the sample audio and it was riveting. I think that it's really important to provide the book description for this one: The relationship between man and horse on the Eurasian steppe gave rise to a succession of rich nomadic cultures. Among them were the Mongols of the thirteenth century †“ a small tribe, which, under the charismatic leadership of Genghis Khan, created the largest contiguous land empire in history. Inspired by the extraordinary life nomads lead, Tim Cope embarked on a journey that hadn't been successfully completed since those times: to travel on horseback across the entire length of the Eurasian steppe, from Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia, through Kazakhstan, Russia, Crimea and the Ukraine to the Danube River in Hungary. From horse-riding novice to spending months in the saddle, he learnt to fend off wolves and would-be horse-thieves, and grapple with the haunting extremes of the steppe as he crossed sub-zero plateaux, the scorching deserts of Kazakhstan and the high-mountain passes of the Carpathians. As he travelled he formed a close bond with his horses and especially his dog Tigon, and encountered essential hospitality †“ the linchpin of human survival on the steppe †“ from those he met along the way. Cope bears witness to how the traditional ways hang in the balance in the post-Soviet world †“ an era that has brought new-found freedom, but also the perils of corruption and alcoholism, and left a world bereft of both the Communist system upon which it once relied, and the traditional knowledge of the nomadic forefathers. A journey of adventure, endurance and eventual triumph, On the Trail of Genghis Khan is at once a celebration of and an elegy for an ancient way of life. The ebook's 528 pages, which translates into 18 hours and 39 minutes of narration. The audiobook (alone) at Audible is $25.95. Here is how you can get it for only $5.98 with this Whispersync deal . . . . The ebook is marked down temporarily to $1.99; the Whispersync audio is only $3.99. So, the total for the ebook, audiobook, and Whispersync benefits is only $5.98. You can get the whole deal by starting at the webpage at Amazon for the ebook. You might also wish to see what's at the webpage at Audible for the audiobook. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 06-07-2015 at 02:04 AM. |

Apparently someone over at audiobooks.com is listening to this forum - your wish has cone true! Today's freebie is "The Secret Agent" by Joseph Conrad. It's the Naxos production, so I suspect it'll be well-done.

On a completely unrelated note, I just finished Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities" this weekend and got Naxos' Timson introductory / summary podcast for it you mentioned last year. Quite good. |
