Press the powerbutton until you can be sure the device is off. Then press the powerbutton again and while holding it tap the lower left and right corners repeatedly. This will reset your device.

I will try. First I let it charge for an hour or so, maybe it's also the battery?

I tried it a few times. No luck. Then after a lot of tries and pinhole resets I followed your instruction again, now it's restoring!

I really want to try out KSM, but I'll wait until the screen rotation problem is fixed and it's confirmed it works on the Glo HD. Thank you for your help!

I am sorry for inconvenience. Luckily you could restore the reader without opening it. As for making KSM work on Glo HD, there are two difficulties. One is that I am currently terribly busy with other things, the other is that I do not know exactly what is going on.

This is my guess what is happening:
After the main work of each update is (supposedly) finished, a notification is displayed that the update has been installed and that the device will reboot after the user closes the notification window. When the user closes the notification window the device writes any unsaved parts of the writing cache to disk and reboots.

In the case of the Glo HD, the user cannot close the notification window since the screen is rotated and the touch coordinates do not match. As a result the user has to force the device to power off. In this case the pending data are not written to disk and only a part of the update is actually written to disk.

The one thing I could do is to automatically reboot the device properly after some time if there is no user input . I might possibly be able to prepare the new update file(s) this weekend.

One thing that I would like to know is whether people (like trekk) who copied the update files manually after a failed update, see at any point the rotated screen and the non-matching touch coordinates (for instance the power off screen, or some info or help screen, or maybe after exiting nickel and returning to KSM)?

Another question would be whether other device models have this issue with the turned screen during update too. Or is this happening only on the Glo HD?

Just saw this post. I admit I do not understand exactly what you are after. Do you mean that you would like to insert your own data (that you got by a previous official registration) into a blank database? Something like logging in to your account without having nickel or the desktop application involved (and without synchronization with the kobo server)?

Don't worry about delay. I'm also too busy with my job
That's exactly what I need because normaly i don't want to connect with kobo but from time to time I connect and them the problem with your patch arise. So, I always log officialy when reset or make deep changes.

New to the ereader world, new to the kobo world, even newer to the kobo hacking world. Have a Glo HD, and have the same issue of not being able to press the close button after KSM installs updates 1, 2 and 3 in a row.

What should I do ? force reboot it with the power button ?

I would uninstall KSM7, by using the KoboRoot.tgz, that matches or comes closest (the one in the 3.13.1 folder, should work for the current firmware) from inside the "KBStartMenu_07_uninstall.zip" in the first post. Place that KoboRoot.tgz into the .kobo directory/folder and safely eject your device and disconnect the USB cable. Your device should show that it is updating. (You can't do it the new easier way that Tshering added for his update [Which automated what I just described] because of the problem, with the touchscreen not working right.)

You could delete the folder kbmenu of .adds and the folder kbmenupngs, then install KSM7 again but not do the third update. If that gets rid of the problem, let us and Tshering know.

Luck;
Ken

I think you should factory reset your reader, cf. this post on how to do it. You will probably have to try it several times until you get it right. There seems to be a problem of timing, or maybe of finding the correct positions to tap. And then better do not install KSM again until it has improved in this respect.

Once the updates have been installed (fully or partial) and KSM could be started, there was no more rotated screen, all touch coordinates seem to match. Another thing seems to be only cosmetic: When I start nickel, I don't see the usual squares, I only see lots of thin lines spread over the whole screen. After a while nickel has started and I can see the standard Kobo home screen.

After another factory reset I tried the whole installation process one more time. Again there was only a partial update and I added the missing files manually. Different from the first installation now I'm no longer able to exit nickel via the exit.png.

I installed it today on a Glo HD. I ran the main installation, then copied the three update files over. I did get the rotated screen, but after simply powering off (by pressing the power button long) and rebooting, everything seems to work just fine.

Edit: Just checked for several of the files of the third update, and they're all there.

Thank you for this information.

Could you please:
select (home) "configure"
select "[nickel]"
select "add item"
select "avoidPickel=false"
select "return"
select "save and exit"
and tell me whether this improves the situation.?

Could you please check whether \kbmenu\fmonsh\exit_nickel.sh does exist. And maybe you should also check whether you are really selecting kbmenupngs\exit_nickel.png (and not a copy of exit_nickel.png that lives in another folder).

I saw the same cosmetic irregularity when starting nickel. And doing this fixes it on my HD.

Thank you for telling. Maybe pressing the power button (without pressing the reset button) made the difference.

Thank you for trying and reporting! I will make it the default setting with the next update.
The same "cosmetic irregularity" will unfortunately also appear on all KSM progress animations, for instance when backing up or restoring files, when downloading a Kobo FW update package via KSM and in similar cases.
