Well there is "phoenix" and "dahlia" in the last firmware update.

I think it might be like this:

E606c = dragon the Aura HD
E606f = phoenix the 6" Aura
E606g = dahlia ?the H2O?

Luck;

P.S. The error message does suggest that the backup partition may contain the slideshow files. Or perhaps the account setup link will download them?

Is anyone using their Kobo for syncing articles with Pocket? I love this feature but I've noticed that in a lot of these articles the text seems fades, not as sharp as an epub, almost like their are dead pixels but they look fine on a book.
Anyone else notice this?

Someone needs to stop me from ordering a spare Glo HD to take advantage of the 20% discount and the CAD to USD price! I am soooooo tempted by the offer.

I impulsively bought a Kobo Glo HD two days ago. Have it setup with a few .epub's and syncing with pocket. I have not noticed any differences in text quality; even after a thorough comparison. Dunno. Its a fantastic first eReader for me though!

Glad to be here!

That is how it works on my Glo (tried it this morning) but this and the other way don't work on my aura HD.
But, for me,it is a useless function,the shown pictures are optimized at the way it displays the best for the reader.
I use my e-reader for books,in the ideal world all pictures in a ebook "must" been optimized for displaying on a reader,but they don't are in practice.
It is nice to have a high quality color picture with 16 million colors on a tablet,but most of the readers,even in color,can't display more then 16 shades so why put a cover inside that takes more space then the total book itself ?
The pictures of the slideshow look very bright and beautiful,but only because they have a rich pattern of dark black,on white backgrounds,they look so sharp but only because they are 8 bit grayscales in exactly the resolution that every device can display.
That doesn't appear in a real ebook that you buy.

You seem to be against the very idea of displaying pictures on an ereader. I am not much for Graphic Novels, myself, but I have seen a few on my Aura HD, and they did look quite impressive. Then there are many novels that I read which include maps. (I sometimes even go to the trouble to extract the maps from an epub and run them through Gimp2, scaling them to match a full page on my reader.) Then there is non-fiction works to consider, many a chart or graph are provided as graphic images/pictures.

There are most often "pictures" in the ebooks that I buy. The cover image is often an RGB full color image, that my reader has no problem rendering in grayscale. I usually have Koreader even use the books cover as a "screensaver". The covers do take up some storage space, but I have plenty of that, in just one 32gb uSD card. (My AuraHD usually has two installed.)

Luck;
Ken

Oh I am not against it and in some story's you need it,like a map.
But last week I had one where the actual book was 200 KB.
The front was a .JPG file, 2416x4288, more then 2 megabytes in size, 300 DPI, 24 bits of color.
That is overkill.
For sure,the devices rendered it well.. but how many times do you look at that cover, at 6 inch it is hard to see small details.
For sure,there are books that are more then worth it,with pictures of stunning colors,but then I think most of the current e-readers are not the ones you would use to watch those books.
The screensave books I mentioned on the device can be use to show what the device is capable of but on the other hand they mislead you because 99% of the bookcovers and included pictures are not adapted in the same way and look totally different.
I wish all of my pages of all my books look like the examples that are there for my Glo,beautiful sharp,dark,perfect contrast, perfect black sharp letters on a perfect white background.
Hence, if they even come near the examples,I would not buy the Glo HD..

I've run into covers that were over 7 MB in size on an ebook that was really only 400 KB. And I fully agree with you, it's ridiculous overkill that does nothing but bloat the size of the book for no reason. I mean how much time do you spend staring at the cover to justify the wasted space.

Even maps included can be compressed correctly to still appear at great quality without getting into the overkill sizes that bloat the book. But it seems whoever does the images for ebooks knows nothing about image compression.

I've seen some cook books that had many MANY full colour, high resolution pictures. I keep thinking I should try to make a calibre plugin to resample images.

As long as we've thoroughly hijacked this thread, why not make it an "Illustrations" toc adding plugin, as well?

Luck;

When you sync to find updates, is there a prompt if one is found? Does it show the list of changes?

No list of changes. There is a small list AFTER the install but it often just says "Bug Fixes"

My personal preference is to wrap the image so it is automatically displayed full screen on any of my ereaders regardless of screen resolution. I also like using the 16 level grey scale plugin with GIMP as a very handy tool for converting full colour to 4 bit to save some space. Though I did think when I left CGA video behind that I would no longer need to worry about dithering.

Pinch to zoom doesn't work?

On this device you should be able to adjust the font size by pinch to zoom. Whatever I try, I can't. I have installed the latest firmware update. Is this a known problem? (Owner since yesterday)
