my grandmother makes stuffed mushrooms like that but instead of bacon she puts cheese on top. the stuffing is made from the feet of the mushrooms cut up very finely and fried in a pan with garlic and onions. they are indescribably yummy.

Looks tasty, but with good mushrooms and a really tasty cheese (hence the choice of a blue cheese) you really don't need the bacon to add flavour. And (with the right cheese) it's handy for vegetarians. (Serve with some very lightly dressed leaves, and some bread to soak up those gorgeous juices....)

We had raclette for dinner last night (with a French raclette cheese bought at our local "fine foods" grocer, along with the ham and prosciutto). That was pretty nice, at least until my stomach burst.

It was a coolish day (it only got to 26C, and it was about 24C at dinnertime), plus we had the air conditioning on.

Right now, I am enjoying the sounds of relative silence, as my sister and co. have just left. I'm looking forward to an empty-housed Christmas (empty at least until Christmas night, when a friend from Sydney arrives). I think we' might be going down to the beach for a swim shortly.
