And that is exactly why Sony was better than Kobo. It worked out of the box. No tweaking with this and screwing up that and then fixing that and screwing up something else on a constant basis. The Sony readers didn't need monthly updates. They worked as they were supposed to from cradle to grave!

The recent firmware updates still include the slideshow folder, but only have subfolders for a few devices. That the folders are there for any devices would indicate that the code for the demo function is still in the firmware. You might be able to add the folders yourself, and make it work.

There is no /.kobo/slideshow/ folder on my H2O so I guess that's why it doesn't work.
The error message on the device is :

Demo slideshow not found. The slideshow images for demo mode have been removed from the ereader. please factory reset to restore them. Warning: this will erase your books, documents, and custom settings.

I didn't remove the slideshow images and have no wish to factory reset my device so I guess there's no demo mode for me

I wonder if the "dragon" folder would work for the H2O, as the images would be the same size. I don't know where the "dragon" folder comes from as the updates only have "kraken", "pixie", and "trilogy" folders, in \mnt\onboard\.kobo\slideshow\.

... except when they didn't. If you were unlucky enough to own a PRST1 (which I did), bold and italics didn't work reliably when using anything other than the (really poor) default font. Sony never bothered to fix this basic problem for PRST1 owners, deciding to restrict it to PRST2 devices.

Luckily a generous MR hacker did provide a fix for those not averse to tweaking their devices. He informed us that it was a 2-line fix. Thanks, Sony, very professional. So you see my Sony memories are not as rosy as yours.

I am not sure that the "dragon" folder is what would be used by the H2O.

If you wanted to try you would just add/create the /.kobo/slideshow/dragon/en/ folders. Then put some 01.png, 02.png, 03.png, ect... files in the "en" folder. (This is assuming that your device is set to English.) The images should be 1080x 1440.

I find it easy to convert images in the free Gimp2, to 8 bit grayscale and scale the image to the proper size.

Could not try it on the Glo, the battery was dead,but on my Aura HD it doesn't work, hence, would it harm if I delete the images and slideshow directory, the more space the best

I tried this but it's not working, I don't get an error message anymore but a blank screen.

Is your H2O setup so that the menus are in English? If not, you would want to use one of the following, instead of "en" for the folder that you put the .png files in:

de - if your menus are in German

es - if your menus are in Spanish

fr - if your menus are in French

it - if your menus are in Italian

jp - if your menus are in Japanese

nl - if your menus are in Dutch (I guess)

pt - ?

pt_BR - ??

If someone could provide the codename used in the firmware to ID the H2O, that might work better than "dragon".

For testing the language was set in English and the folder "en", I wonder if the folder name dragon is wrong.
