I started with a Sony 5 yrs ago, then 4 yrs ago bought my 1st Nook Glowlight, I've now updated to new Nook Glowlight. I also have a IPad Air, but for books I like my Nook, it's just the right size and fits in my pocket. I know quit a few people with Ereaders, they all prefer them for reading.

I have gone back to using my ereaders over my iPad . My eyes were starting to hurt from the lighting on the screen from reading books on my iPad . I also don't have to charge my ereader for weeks at a time.
I guess it's just a matter of preference . I don't mind carrying more than one device. |

I don't understand the either/or. I use my Kindles for 99% of my reading but when I'm caught waiting somewhere and don't have a Kindle with me, I read my current book on my phone. I was shocked that I could read on the smaller screen but I can. I wouldn't want to read an entire book on a backlit screen but in an emergency it beats reading labels on boxes.
I would not give up my Kindle to use my Nexus 5 for reading and I can't imagine getting a tablet. |

There is also the weight difference. I can really feel the difference when I go from the kindle to the fire. I also just don't care for any tablet interface. I just don't like poking, tapping or swiping at a screen to try to get the wanted result. It just doesn't work for me. That's why my fire mostly sits on a shelf with it's battery draining while my kindle is constantly with me.

As for battery life, my phone lasts the day and plugs in when I get to sleep. I have never run out of power. So neither of these two reasons gives me any incentive to carry a second device and force me into a device's walled garden. |

And when you sideload all of your books and purchase them from wherever it's cheapest, there is no walled garden to worry about even with ereaders. |

My family has bought more eink devices in the past year than phones or tablet. This is pretty consistent.

Whatever, although a tablet can do many more things than an e-reader-- reading books on tablets is just stupid :
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/05/bu...tractions.html People who want tablets instead of e-readers were never avid book readers to begin with. You illiterate people don't seem to get that an e-reader is a dedicated niche reading device for book readers and it does its job extremely well unlike a tablet which is a jack of all trades but master of none. You dumb illiterate tablet people should stop trying to ruin it for the more erudite intellectual people who actually read more than you do. Last edited by KevinBurke; 05-26-2015 at 03:30 PM. |

laugh, I assume you meant to be funny - avid book reader here, I read at least one book every day or 2.
I have had and do have several ereaders and one small tablet. Tablet does not hurt my eyes, nor give me headaches - ereaders do - I try to go back to them every so often (due to the better battery life, but they still hurt my eyes. I read on my tablet - I do not use any other app on it, so it is my ereader of choice. Quote:

To call someone "stupid" for making a personal choice that differs from the one that you made is rather rude, to my mind. I prefer to read on a dedicated eInk device, but I'd never call someone who made a different choice "stupid".
