Is MR running a survey?

I am currently logged into MR, and have been looking through various forums. However during this process I started to get advertisements between some of the posts, and the threads were acting like I wasn't logged in. In particular the Reading Recommendations forum.

But, some forums behaved normally - that is there were no ads - because all along I have been logged in.

Anyway, I've now got a pop up screen asking me to participate in a 'survey' at the end of which I will be offered $50 worth of exclusive rewards.

So, what is this survey? Legit?

And I'm already a member.

This sounds like malware on your computer. It certainly isn't MR.

There are a few varieties of this type of malware going around. The last one I came across was bundled with, I think, a chrome addon. Disabling and ultimately getting rid of the plugin got rid of the problem as well.

Try a Google search first of all for your specific symptoms. If you need further help just post here or PM me.

Thanks Harry, but I'm curious because the survey offer is specific to mobileread.com visitor.

In that case it sounds as if the system thinks you aren't logged on for some reason. Try explicitly logging off MR and logging back on again and see if that helps.

Log back on.

See what happens.

This is just a suggestion, and I have no idea if anything will be accomplished.

I have seen this before. The "survey" popup does mention the site you are on, which is not that unexpected given the malware hijacks the browser.

Well, this time around I don't have any of those other odd instances occurring within the various MR forums.

Again I'm logged in, and all looks and acts as it should.

@Lynx-lynx - I suggest you download MalwareBytes and do a scan - looks like you have picked up a browser hijack, and/or some PUPs

If you subscribe to Malwarebytes you can run it along side your existing AV (it's specifically designed to allow that) and it will detect and quarantine them as and when they arrive.

Thanks for that info.

I've run a check using Malwarebytes and I've come back with a clean bill. Same goes for Spybot.

So, at the moment it seems I'm okay, just something weird the other day. I use Firefox as my browser.
