I have a few books I would like to reread, but I also have so many books I want to read first.

I seldom if ever re-read. Only if it's some type of self-help, motivational, or educational book. With my paper books I started putting them in a bag and donating to the library regularly.

There have been a few books I liked so well that when I got to the end I turned around and started over at the beginning. Does that count as a reread or does there have to be a gap?

That sort of behavior might actually need to be researched

In my case, I have a similar weird behavior. I can't stop re-reading Lord of the Rings; but it comes down to the fact that I actually want to read more about Middle-Earth.

Thus, I have bought everything about Middle-Earth in paper, although I already have all the e-books. (Of The History of Middle-Earth, only book 1 and 2 are available as e-book; the rest is paper only.) These are actually the only paper books I will own right now.

In some time, I'll be re-reading all of it. Again; of which only the Histories, and Unfinished Tales will be new.

I didn't either, and I've doubted for years if I should get the History books. As soon as it was/became available as an e-book, I bought everything about Middle-Earth, but as I said above, after Lost Tales I and II, the rest of the History books were never released as of yet.

This weekend I've decided to go for it, and got everything at once. (I'm not going on holiday this year, and I had a nice tax refund )

2004 Deluxe Editions of:
The Hobbit*
The Lord of the Rings
The Silmarillion
The Children of Hurin*
The Unfinished Tales
Tales of the Perilous Realm*

* = Illustrated. It's a pity The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion in this set are not illustrated, so I also got the 2014 edition of The Lord of the Rings illustrated by Alan Lee, and the 2004 edition of The Silmarillion illustrated by Ted Nasmith. Of Unfinished Tales, no illustrated version exists, AFAIK.

In addition, I finally also acquired the Histories:
History of Middle-Earth, Part 1 (Book I-V)
History of Middle-Earth, Part 2 (Book VI-IX)
History of Middle-Earth, Part 3 (Book X-XII)
History of The Hobbit (Volume 1-3)

I already have the Extended Blu-Ray box of LotR, and I'll get the Hobbit one as soon as it is released.

These books and movies will be the only physical media I'll keep, apart from The Lion King series, Shogun, and Samurai/Musashi 1-3. Maybe I'll add a new hardcover version of Shogun as well; I already have a hardcover of Musashi.

As for the rest, I'll be clearing out everything in the coming weeks, both physical and digital: possessions and stuff, e-books, digital music, spare computer parts, everything. Regarding digital stuff, I'll pick out what I really want, and just archive the rest into a separate folder, to be searched if I suspect something I want might be already in there.

I would say that there have to be an interval between readings... Otherwise you are just gaining a better understanding of the book you are still reading.

Look at the Amazon marketplace if you can.

Those Deluxe collection books cost 60 GBP in the official Tolkien store, but can be had for 25-30 (or cheaper if used) in the marketplace. Same for the Histories.

The only book that was overly expensive was Nasmith's 2004 Silmarillion, as it is out of print. There is a version of a different company (not HarperCollins), but that seems to be a reprint of the 1998 one with much less pictures.

I reread a lot. Mostly when I'm too busy and have to read in short bursts. I find it much easier to set aside and then go back to a book I am rereading than one I am reading for the first time. Other times I'm just in the mood for a particular book/series/characters.

I've done this sometimes when the author has thoroughly misled me and I want to see where the traps were laid that led to my false assumptions.

Look:

Official MSRP: 60 GBP / 85 Euro / 92 USD
Amazon.co.uk: 40 GBP / 56 Euro / 62 USD (Savings: 33%)
Amazon.co.uk Marketplace: 32 GBP / 45 Euro / 49 USD (Savings: 47%)

The prices fluctuate. As said, sometimes, these books can go down to 25 GBP (especially if used, but they're most often about as expensive as the cheapest new ones).

The same is true for almost everything else, except if you're looking at special/limited/signed/wrapped in gold editions.

The only problem is that there are a lot less retailers that send outside the UK compared to a few years ago. Also, if you're in Europe, don't forget Amazon.it, Amazon.de, and Amazon.fr... and of course Amazon.com for the US.

I must re-read. I read way too fast, and can't seem to slow down, so I end up (on occasion) forgetting I read something anyway. Either way, I get to really get my money's worth, because I enjoy a "new" book twice and sometimes even three times. I first read The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings when I was 11. I didnt understand it all, so I read it again, and got more out of it, in my late teens. Rinse and repeat every 10 years since then. I think I'm overdue for another round.

This is an interesting article about rereading favorite children's books (which I do often--the Betsy-Tacy series, Anne of Green Gables, and one of my all-time favorites, mentioned here, Emily of New Moon:

http://flavorwire.com/518840/why-do-...n-we-get-older

I do also reread favorite adult books, mostly as comfort reads, I think.
