Until very recently I kept them in folders organised by author. But I'm now storing them all in calibre, and fixing up the metadata in there. With extra metadata for part, read, price and shop. I'm using the Date for the date when I obtained the book.
Major metadata update (date/price/shop) is 1/4 done. |

@JSWolf
Hi. I am interested to learn how you manage to create series of a particular author please. I have many authors (over 27,000 ebooks) and like such authors as James Herbert, Dan Brown, Andy McNab etc. etc. Each have many books but I want to serialize them so I know what book belongs to where. Such as Andy McNab - [Nick Stone 01]. How do you manage to do this please? Or is it a case of researching every book? Thanks Bigyun2000 UK |

FantasticFiction when you search by author has lists of their series. I edit the title to be Title [#]. I generally don't include series name because it makes the title too long. To group the series correctly on my kindle I edit the publication date. Each series get it's own year and I use sequential months each title. |

I remove DRM and organize them in Calibre as well as in Marvin. It is easy enough to sort by catagory using Calibre in Marvin but I like sorting into folders as well. That is me.

When you say "name your ebooks", do you mean the title, or the actual file name?
I use Calibre, so I don't have to worry about naming the file based on some obscure notion of mine that will be sure to change in a year or three. I use calibre to organize my ebooks and then use the kindle collection plugin to sort them by series when they're on my kindle... |

I am considering using Calibre to manage my collections but is it possible on a Kindle Paperwhite2 with the latest FW?

The latest firmware blocks out our root exploits, so you cannot jailbreak unless you are willing to use the serial port. And managing collections requires interacting with one of our third-party Kindle addons, so:
Jailbreaking is a hard requirement for managing collections via calibre. (Do note, that the jailbreak is retained when upgrading, even though it is impossible to newly-jailbreak.) |

I see. I don't really want to crack the case but since I work on embedded platforms I have co-workers who solder serial port connectors on STBs on a regular basis.
... I would rather live with collections. At least it is a usable interface unlike the one on the nook platforms. |

I have all my books on a seperate hard drive from my primary OS listed by author. If the author has a particular series then those books are in a sub folder by series name. I am thinking I should upload the thing to Dropbox or OneDrive to get it of my computer.
After I fix my computer that's probably going to be a priority. |

![]() For some reason I've never used Dropbox and I have an iPhone/iPad/MacBook trifecta and they supposedly work so well together. That being said I would keep the hard drive as a primary but would move a copy offsite as a spare incase of a failure. |

Among those who are fanatical about such things (professional photographers for example), it's the norm to first back up to a raid disk, then back up to media such dvd or usb drive and then back up to an off site storage (there are a number around). I back my calibre directory on to a raid disk and my laptop so I have three copies. I also have all my books on my reading devices (a couple of iPads).
