The big benefit of an ereader is the space. Carrying 2 or more paperbacks is a pain and I always need at least 2 because I will be finishing the one I am reading soon. Storing 1000 or more books is also a pain. Since I am an avid reader who likes SF/Fantasy novels and has particular taste I can't just read a book once, I reread my library constantly.

Over the last 6 years I have converted a lot of my paper books into ebooks, I am now down to only three 85" bookshelves of books with the books only in two layers (front/back). A good portion of that is signed hardcovers and the rest are mostly out of print deceased authors.

I rarely have more than 20 or 30 books on my Kindle. Usually fewer than 15. So this isn't much of a problem for me.

When it's time to pick a book I look through the ones on the device, through my personal library at home and Amazon and I pick one and quickly forget the others.

I have to agree with the one handed reading though. When I was younger and my eyes were better I always read paperbacks and I could read those with one hand but I often didn't. I rarely use 2 hands for my Kindle.

My kindle is 4 days old and has over 100 books on it. It shows how different reading habits and desires are for people.

Neener.
Well, one of my uses for my tablet is to read comics/graphic novels on. I can't really do that on my Kindle Paperwhite. However, for novels it is the Paperwhite every time. The tablet is heavy, the screen is super-shiny, and (as has been noted by others)...Squirrel!...there are distractions. It is true I have a fairly inferior tablet, I guess.

I do get restless and distracted very easily in my adulthood. It is not the fault of the boos themselves, I think, as it happens to a greater or less extent with any book. I pretty much have to be alone in the house AND put my phone in another room.

I'm reading a DTB right now and all I have to say is thank god for e and e-audio books. My eyes can't handle DTB anymore--if it wasn't for the a/e options, I wouldn't be reading. The DTB book is on a medical issue so the info is important to me and I'm grinding it out, but the slight/light font used is killing me.

I like having an ereader so that I can carry more than one book when I travel without having to worry about overloading my bags . I could just as well use my iPad , but after a while my eyes start hurting.

My first ereader was the nook, and I've been hooked every since.

I am now reading my books using the Kindle PW2 and it is so much easier on my eyes. I am not having nearly as much eye strain or headaches. I will still use the Nexus as times but not near as often.

Ahhh! You were tripped up by the old Nook Hook trick, eh? The Nook Hook Trick is the oldest trick in the Book. The only way to counter the Nook Hook is to do a Book Look before you encounter it.

Travel is certainly where ereading shines.

I read 5-10 books a week, so travelling used to mean a lot of space taken up with physical books.

Now, I have a whole library in my pocket.

Have any of you guys tried Kobo's tablet's? They have a reading mode which turns off notifications (and even wifi maybe) for you. You can turn it on manually, or have the device auto-guess when you are reading.

You also get a full-on Android tablet with access to the Play store.

Sadly, Kobo seems to have killed off their tablet division so no more will be forthcoming (the current Arc10HD is an amazing deal at $200 for a 10" "retina" class display). It also means that the tablet is stuck at Jellybean I think.

It makes reading even more enjoyable, no crumbs, no stains and easy to clean the bacteria off it.

Well I'm on track to read 17 books this week because I was able to have them all at hand pretty quickly. It's probably my record and is pretty insane even for me.

To explain I read the entire Wardstone Chronicles books many of them I read completely in one sitting and even started into the next one in the series to continue on with the overall plot I also read the first book of "The Starblade Chronicles" for the same reason.

I was still in a fantasy type mood yesterday and I'd been meaning to read " The Broken Empire " trilogy and I read the first one again in one sitting and am now halfway through the second. If I finish all 3 by friday I will have hit 17 books. There is no way I'd have bought 17 paperbacks in a week ereaders made it possible by allowing me to queue up future series I was interested in beforehand.

I can't decide if I'm jealous of you guys who can read umpteen books a week or if I'm glad I can't. I typically read 1, 2 or 3 hours a day and being a slow reader that gets me through a good size book in a week, sometimes 2 weeks. There's so much more I'd like to read. On the other hand, I wonder if I'd get burned out from it.

I wonder if reading more books would get me tired of reading or if only reading more hours would.

I don't think I will ever be tired of reading, but I know that when I overdo it, like 2-3 books in one day, I sometimes have forgotten details of the first book when I finish the third, specially if the books are not part of the same series. It's not always a good thing to read too fast.
