Yes, but then the books are too big.

Don't judge me for my OCD, I said you should only do it if it wasn't a lot of work.

You might want to set up a user-defined sort before you choose which sort goes with which group. For example, for "Series" several people like to use the user-defined sort "Series, then Author, then Title"
My god missed that completly. Thanks for the hint.

No judgement intended. I wanted to be sure I understood the source of the problem.

In the next beta release, each widget type will have a "configuration dialog" that pops up when you create the widget, asking how many books are to be shown in the widget. The only time this dialog is shown is when the widget is created, so you will need to remove and re-add the widget. For all widgets the minimum is 3. The grid widget maximum is 9. The book list and the cover list widgets have a maximum of 50. The stack widget has a maximum of 20.

Why is the grid limited to 9? If I create a widget on a tablet that's nearly full screen size, won't the covers be very large or have a lot of empty space in between?

I was just kidding, I don't think I have ever felt any judgment for you. And given the number of requests of mine you have done, you've probably earned the right anyhow.

Setting up the widget is manual. One cannot dynamically create a widget with N books. I chose 9 as a reasonable compromise.

I created a 9-wide widget on my Nexus 7 in landscape. At 1-high there is space between the covers but the covers are so small as to be close to unusable. At 2-high there is no space between the covers.

Here is the 1-high widget, width as large as permitted:

Name:	Clipboard02.jpg
Views:	340
Size:	21.8 KB
ID:	138418

And the 2-high widget:

Name:	Clipboard01.jpg
Views:	343
Size:	38.7 KB
ID:	138419

EDIT: I raised the limit to 12. That should be enough, says I with great hope.

Never mind. When I saw grid, I thought it meant a 3 x 6 grid or something like that depending on how big I size it.

May it be possible to add the option to mark a book internal in CC as favorite/next to read and add a corresponding group on the left?
I know i can do this with a custom tag via Calibre, but i do not want to cluster anymore the opg file. For me it also only makes sense in CC as i only store there a third of all the books i have in Calibre.
Thanks

I hesitate (a lot) to add internal data to CC that can't be synced to/from calibre. Within minutes users would ask to sync it, and every sync field adds significant time to CC/calibre connections.

For your use case, can you use the 3 values of read? For example, I use "Yes" (the green check) for read, "No" (the red x) for want to read, and empty for neither. My use of "No" seems to be the same as what you are asking for.

I understand your concern. The suggestion you make is great, more as I am using the read / not read custom column. Serves my needs completely.
Thanks

Would love to see a Windows version, in particular a Windows Universal app version (Windows 10/Windows Phone) with OneDrive support.

Sorry, but this won't happen soon if ever. We have been trying to find time for years to do an iOS version, which is much higher in priority than Windows.

But Charles, they insist it will be easy to port your android app to Windows 10.

How about a bookshelf view when connected to the content server! I have a huge library and the list view takes forever! If there was a cover grid I could find things much faster :c)

Thank you :c)

Because of how the content server works a bookshelf wouldn't be any faster than the book list. Calibre gives CC the books in groups with a size controlled by calibre's content server option "Max OPDS items per query". To get more items CC must ask calibre for more info. That is what takes the time.

A better approach would be to use the search facility so that the list returned by calibre is more targeted. Or use one of the other mechanisms such as tags, series, or author.
