You may be right, I will post it there

What definition are you using ?

The blurb suggest a crime is involved.

Is _Komarr_ by Lois McMaster Bujold a romance, a thriller, Space Opera, a (secret) police procedural ?
Komarr: Yes, to all of the above. And it's wonderful in all of those categories!

Cold Comfort (Barry Gilbert #1) - free

I'm not familiar with this series, but this was published in hardback by Carroll & Graf, and I've had terrific luck with their mysteries.

Two Joe Gunther mysteries by Archer Mayor are on US Kindle Countdown, at $1.99 for about 1 1/2 more days, before going up to $4.99. One of them is new on sale (to me); the other is a repeat (to me). Eventually maybe we'll get the whole series, or at least the backlist ones where rights appear to have reverted.

The Ragman's Memory is the seventh in the series.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Ragmans-Memory...dp/B00C3DNPJK/
Spoiler:
Quote:
A small girl brings Joe Gunther a bird’s nest—made partially of human hair. In the search to put a body, and an identity, to the hair’s owner, Joe comes upon an unexplained death, a grisly murder, and a sudden disappearance. All seem to be entangled in a puzzling web of municipal corruption, blackmail, and industrial espionage. A shell-shocked World War II vet nicknamed “The Ragman” may hold the key to it all, if Joe can get him to talk before the murderer strikes again.

“…by practicing his craft with dazzling skill and by digging for the deeper moral issues behind every grass-roots crime, [Archer Mayor] has made an honorable art form of the regional mystery.” —Marilyn Stasio, New York Times

The Marble Mask is the eleventh in the series.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Marble-Mask-Gu...dp/B00C3E9F7K/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Joe Gunther, a Brattleboro, Vermont, cop, is the head of the new Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI), a joint task force charged with statewide responsibility for major crimes. In The Marble Mask, the VBI's first case takes the force north to Stowe, where a 50-year-old corpse has turned up in a crevasse on Mt. Mansfield. Some of the more interesting minor characters in author Archer Mayor's long-running series about the amiable elder sleuth make return appearances here as Joe's teammates--like one-armed Willy, a former wife-beater who's now playing footsie with Sammie Martens, one of Joe's favorite colleagues. When the frozen stiff turns out to be a (formerly) big-time Canadian crime boss named Jean Deschamps, who disappeared after World War II, Joe and his gang cross the border to work with the Mounties, the Sûreté, and the local cops in Sherbrooke, where Deschamps's son Marcel is involved in a turf war with the Hell's Angels and a rival gang of thugs. Old secrets and intrigues come to light while an intricate plan to frame a dying man for a crime half a century old forms an interesting puzzle that's not fully revealed until the last couple of pages.

Free from the author via KDP (the 2nd Select) @ Amazon (linkage for the lot), and also the 1st one available via Kobo (DRM-free) and likely price-matched in other venues I haven't checked:

Eyes of the Hammer by Bob Mayer, 1st in his Green Berets series of military action thrillers, originally out from Presidio in 1991.

What if US Army Green Berets led by Dave Riley must take on not only criminal drug traffickers but also betray their own government?

A US Army Special Forces team carrying sterilized weapons and unmarked uniforms is on its way to Colombia. The mission: conduct covert, unilateral raids to destroy cocaine processing laboratories.

Of course nothing is as it seems especially once the CIA gets involved. Throw in an Israeli mercenary, betrayal and double-dealing in Washington and the team soon finds itself wondering what the real mission is.

Project Aura, 2nd in his Psychic Warrior series of sfnal military action technothrillers involving a secret weapons development project like those weird CIA remote viewing things one keeps hearing about, originally out from Dell in 2001.

Mind control is only the first step...
World domination is the next...

Much like Men Who Stares at Goats, Psychic Warrior is a fictional tale taken straight from the pages of the once classified Trojan Warrior Program in Special Forces and written by someone who was in the unit and went through the training. Bob Mayer, former Green Beret understands first hand how the results of taking warfare into the virtual plane through avatars and then reinserting covert operatives into the real world can be devastating.

Bright Gate. HAARP. Remote Viewers. U.S. military operations so top secret that not even the president knew they existed. Now they have produced an elite group of commandos able to leave their bodies — and their souls — to fight anywhere, anytime, using the persuasive power of the human mind.

Sergeant Major Jimmy Dalton is one of them. An ex-Green Beret, a man with no family, no ties, and nothing to lose, Dalton knows the most dangerous weapon in any arsenal is the mind.

Among the first Psychic Warriors to be battle tested on the virtual plane, Dalton has seen up close the damage and destruction the new weapons can cause. The memory will haunt him the rest of his days.

However, Dalton has a new set of enemies. Enemies that have existed for millennia. First, the Mithrans hiding in the peaks of the Himalayas and the other, the Priory, manipulating mankind in the shadows of the power elite. The technology that allows Dalton to be a Psychic Warrior gives these two groups the opportunity to battle each to the death. If they happen to wipe out mankind in the process, so be it.

The race is on to seize power and it falls to Dalton and his team to stop both the Priory and the Mithrans before they destroy all of humanity.

False Flags is a non-series title by Noel Hynd. It's on US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about 4 1/2 more days before going up to $3.25.

link: http://www.amazon.com/FALSE-FLAGS-Be...dp/B0065L7IKS/

Spoiler:
Quote:
From the author of FLOWERS FROM BERLIN and TRUMAN'S SPY....

This is a newly re-formatted edition (January 23, 2014) to address quirks in previous editions.

"Noel Hynd knows the ins and outs of Washington's institutions, public and private." Publishers Weekly (on 'The Enemy Within")

From the author of FLOWERS FROM BERLIN, CONSPIRACY IN KIEV and two dozen other best selling thrillers, comes a newly revised 'endgame' spy story, based on the events of 1983 that were all too real.

It is 1983, the freezing point of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Behind the headlines, unknown to most private citizens, the two super powers bumble toward nuclear confrontation....and in the back streets and back alleys of world capitals, spies and recalled spies fight for a part of a missile guidance system that could tip the balance during nuclear confrontation. And at the center is a woman with a terrible secret.

Noel Hynd takes you on a journey into the world of espionage in both the 1960's and 1980s. Based on fascinating real life detail, some of it autobiographical, the story teams with real life characters from Andropov to Profumo and spawls across CIA stations in London and Paris as well as Parisian night spots and journalistic/spy haunts such as Harry's New York Bar in Paris. The times were deadly, but riveting, the mood intoxicating but frightening.

For spy fans, this is a trip into the real world. You will never feel the same about the year 1983.

"The novels of Noel Hynd stand out like emeralds." - NY Times Book Review.

"A few notches above the Ludlums and Clancys of the world - Booklist

"(False Flags is)...readable and highly complex....written with intelligence and style....a REAL PAGE TURNER. - Publishers Weekly.
