Internal Calibre Book ID displayed in Custom Column
Is it possible to display the Calibre internal book ID (a number) in the book list view in a column? I have searched the user's manual and the forum and cannot find a solution. Thanks.

theducks -- metadata changes do not change the internal id of a book. Deleting ad re-adding would change the number, but it remains constant for the entire history of a book record in a library.

I have seen it (rare) change, but I have never pinned down what I did to make it so.
I used to include {id} on the end of my template to help detect dup versions on a file system only bookshelf on my device. For the other reason, this turned out (long term) to be a bad choice as reading position (and recently read) is tied to filename/path

- I've seen it too within the same library. Think it was before Kovid did some changes to folder/file handling a couple of years ago - might have been a Windows only thing. Can't recall the exact circumstance (assuming I ever knew it) but it would show up in my backup logs. Haven't seen one for a long, long time.

It is worth noting that books will also get a new UUID (unique ID) when copied, so anything that checks the UUID will consider the original and the copy to be different.

IIRC if you do a copy and delete, the UUID is preserved.

Looked at the code and you are right. (What a surprise. )

Possible problem: the operation isn't atomic so we can end up with the same UUID in two libraries. I doubt that is a significant problem and in any event the same thing can happen if a backup is restored, but it does mean that we cannot count on the "unique" part of the UUID.
