So, please, pretty please, DO sideload a font or two for testing. And then fifty fonts, just to see whether it can crash the device or screw-up font selection . And tell us the extent of customization available. Like, is it possible to change text alignment, or how small margin can be.

And please try to install third-party programs, such as koreader.
Margin can be reduced to pretty much flush with the screen sides. With a patch, they can go to top and bottom also. Pretty much full-screen. That's with an epub.

Normally you could downgrade to a previous FW, but of course you can't with the Glo HD. But yeah, I was pretty surprised to see such bugs on the new hardware. Weird. All problems I saw were with epub. I didn't try kepub.

I've been using my unpatched Glo HD for a few days. After reading a kepub these are my impressions:

The touch screen is very inaccurate. Selecting words for definitions, font adjustments, closing windows.
The amount of wasted space is excessive. Brings the 6 inch down to a 5 inch device.
I do enjoy the font choices and the ability to add weight to them. My favorites are Caecilia, Amasis and Malabar after making them bolder.
The screen is evenly lit and bright.
The increased resolution is very nice and fonts are dark even with light at high settings.
Page turn speed is good.

Just wanted to add that now 2 italian book sellers
Mondadori and Feltrinelli
have the Glo HD in for preorders for 129 euro, out on 1st of June.
(shipping is free in Italy, but if it's like always it can be shipped to many more countries, with costs of course, at least from Mondadori here you can select a country and see how much it would be http://www.mondadoristore.it/help/servizi/#spedizione )
They also sell the cover.
Still not sure if they will sell them in their physical stores too, but I believe so.
Here are the links
http://www.mondadoristore.it/Kobo-Gl...i068149500708/
http://www.lafeltrinelli.it/kobo-ere.../0681495007080

Just so you guys know and have more options.

^ It should be available for sale in all Mondadori and Feltrinelli bookstores across the country (same as with all the other Kobo e-readers, accessories etc.) and in most consumer electronics stores like Unieuro, Euronics, Mediaworld etc.

My order shipped the 8th, and it still hasn't arrived. I live in Texas. Should I be worried?

I just received my Glo HD in Singapore (quick shipping from Kobo and the third-party shipping forwarder!) and it really looks very good. Then again, I'm comparing it with a 4-year old Nook ST. have not loaded any books on it yet but it is simple and seems to work quite well, and that's really all that matters to me.

I have the black sleep-cover and I like how it looks. Minimalist but it can't lie flat. Looking forward to bringing this on my beach holiday next week!

Apologies if this is old news, but Glo HD appears to be available for pre-Order in the UK now (direct from Kobo). £109.99 with shipping estimated 29th May.

I suspect other retailers will follow suit, nearer 1 June.

Though as it's only going to retail in Europe for €129 (£94), it may be cheaper to buy elsewhere in the EU and pay modest shipping costs.

First post here.

So, I have had my Glo HD for about a week now. I can only compare it to Kindle PW2 and here is my (hopefully unbiased) comparison (well, I did patch Glo HD, so it's not quite out of the box comparison).

Glo HD vs PW2:
Pros:
Customization - especially after being patched
Screen - side by side Glo HD is a clear winner - text is very crisp. I was fine with reading on PW2, until I had them next to each other. PW2 looks blurry and "greyish". You know what they say, once you go "HD" you never come back
Weight - Glo HD is lighter than PW2 (and a little smaller)
Light - Glo HD screen light is brighter
Covers - can use covers from regular Glo (not sure if it's a pros, but it gives a larger selection of available cases)

Draw:
Price - paid the same for both
Form factor - about the same (give or take)

Cons:
Build quality - Glo HD feels "plastic" cheaply made compared to PW2
Responsiveness - this one is a little annoying. Page turn lag (I'm using kepub now, but it was similar on sideloaded epubs). Another thing that I hate is that it literally takes 2-3 sec to look up a word in the dictionary and half of the time it doesn't even register that I am holding my finger on specific word (the other 50% it turns page instead)
Dictionary - PW2 has a large selection of very good dictionaries that can be switched on the fly. Glo HD? Not so much.
Screen refresh - not a big issue, but to get rid of the artifacts I had to set refresh page count to 5 on Glo HD, while PW2 is fine with every 6th page.

My verdict after one week of use - I'll keep Glo HD and pass PW2 to my wife. I dislike Glo HD sluggish response and misregistration of finger touches (page turns/dictionary look up/highlights), but because of a very nice screen and (to a lesser degree) customization I still think that Glo HD is a better reader overall (build quality is a minor thing for me, especially considering price). I just really hope that Kobo will fix touch response in the next S/W release (3.16?)

I confirm 3.15 page turns are faster on a Aura HD than on the Glo HD. Don't worry though. I'm sure they'll fix it. It is not a hardware limitation.

Quick question but I didn't want to start a new thread:

For font type, what does document default do? Does it just use whatever font is embedded in the epub?

If so, do you feel that using the document default option is important in retaining the "feel" of reading that book?

Yes, Page turns are extremely fast on Aura HD having 3.15 firmware.

Hopefully, New firmware will be released quickly and it will fix this issue for Glo HD.

It doesn't with mine.. well actually it does the first time. (sideloaded epubs)
I put on the power slider while the device is on and keep it slided to the right like when you turn it to sleep.
From there I again hold the power slide in the powe on position until the light started to flash all colors.
Then release, after that it reboots.
Then it was fast like lightning.
Did the same on my Glo, a total difference between first !
Both are now quick responding.
