How to change library name
My library has grown to over 100,000 and is in the absurdly named library "toadd".

I never really considered the name when I started and only recently have determined that I wanted to change it to something more descriptive of a library.

I hesitate to change the name of the directory in case of file name length problems or anything like that. To copy to a new library looks like it would take a very long time.

I'm open to suggestions.

Or (with Calibre NOT connected to a Library)
Use the OS to rename the Library folder (toadd) to what you want, then when Calibre starts, it will not find that Library and ask you to point it to the new location (name)

That will work fine, but it is "bad practice" -- it teaches people who don't understand the tool to directly manipulate something that calibre maintains, outside of calibre. What happens when they use the same trick to fix the author name or title inside the library? Very Bad Things(tm) -- yeah, did that early on.

Menu "toadd" -> Rename Library is fewer steps and teaches how to use calibre correctly.

No issue with renaming calibre lib

Unless you rename it according to 18th c. conventions, e.g., "Herein Shall be found Many and Sundry Books, including <full list of 100k titles>", it won't be a problem. Use the ever popular "Calibre Library" or "MyLib" or anything succinct and you will be fine. As described above, all that really happens is the top level directory gets renamed.

Problem I hit at 100k books was having the Calibre Lib on a MacBook Air; consumed 75% of the drive and took 5 minutes to start up!

TheDucks - the reason I don't want to rename at the os level is there are some very long file names/titles and some series are fairly long so I fear hitting the wall on number of characters for path/filename.

Good point. I would expect Calibre to gripe.

I like short names, so C:\lib1 should not cause grief

(to be honest, most of my Library names are longer, )

LOL, I was thinking that C_Library would be nice. Will try from inside Calibre some evening before I go to sleep in case it ties things up a bit
