@Nick_1964:
Please don't be an ignorant. Reading is a a thing, comprehending is a different matter.
In my original responds, I have never ever used price (as indicator) to compare between Amazon Vs Kobo.
CLEARLY, I used price to compare products from Kobo with other products from the same company Kobo in which price and specs played a role in this method. Unless, you are telling me that Kobo is trying to compete with itself than that totally makes no sense!
The outcome (of comparing Kobo X with Kobo Y), I carried it forward to compare it with Kindle Voyage.
Basically your responses towards me, and the examples you provided are baseless. As I mentioned earlier, don't be ignorant. Feel free to read my responses and take a look to your replies.
At least you aren't trying to attack me, and neither I'm defending my choice.

Regardless buddy, this discussion is not benefiting anyone. We don't need to waste our time due to misconceptions.

-------------

@Others:
Sorry about spelling "technically" and replacing it with "technicality". Made a typo, and the spell checker provided me with words that I blindly clicked on the wrong one.
Still no one reported their finds if the example epub worked in the right way (it's works right on the PC).

In practice, I never convert a book in kepub, but there are a lot of people only want the kepub.

Are you talking about reading progress in the footer? With kepubs you can choose what is shown in the footer (I think; I'm using patches, but none that modify the footer I believe.)

Excuse me. I see nothing wrong with my previous reply. You are just taking it a little bit more personal/sensitive than me.

I didn't address you in a bad manner. Your respond were ignorant towards the content of my reply. Hence. I'm not trying to call you with an improper name that you dislike.

Regardless, if you believe I did so. Then please accept my sincerely apologize on this matter.

I am here for 5 years,no one managed it to p*ss me off as a newcomer in just 5 reply's when I am the only one who tries to talk serious about your choice.
I tried to explain what pricing does and how manufacturing company's use it to trick people, thats all.
Again, I don't want to reply any further to explain it,because I don't want to bother other people with it as it is going offtopic for a while and it is more a yes v.s. no then a real discussion.

.

Mobileread used to be a very friendly and even cozy place. We always got help and answers when needed, and were always happy to help when we could. Now it's just about brands-, people-, beliefs-, etc- bashing. The Mods are doing what they can, but some of them are so callous themselves that I often have the feeling they were pyromaniacs in another life. I am so sick of that, and am not the only one.

Who here has both a Glo HD and a Kobo H2O? Which screen has sharper display of text to the naked eye?

Both have Carta screens, and the difference in PPI is not significant. My Glo HD is clearly superior to the Glo, but I wouldn't expect it to be significantly better than the H2O.

Sorry to be ignorant (meaning, I am sure the answer is somewhere on the forum, but I have no idea where), but how does one take a screen shot on a Glo HD? Is there a way? Perhaps I could do that and post the resulting image. My camera photo wasn't a good way to show my screen.

Oh I think I found the way. Kind of a hassle. Perhaps this afternoon I will have time.

I have all three. The difference between the Glo and the others is easy to see. When I compare them, the Glo has that printed on coarser paper look. It looks good, but compared to the other two, it isn't. But, I can't see really see the difference between the Glo HD and the Aura H2O.

My test was simple. Open a book and set the font size so the text appeared the same size and set the light level to the same on all three. Then look between the three. And I put one in front of the other so I'm comparing the the text on one side of the screen.

If the idea is to compare the sharpness of the screen, the screenshot won't help. This is taking a copy the rendered screen stored in a buffer. That won't show how it looks on the actual screen. The photo is needed for that.

H20 on the left, Glo HD on the right: Font size as close to the same as I could get them and light set to 35% on both, same font on both (Charis SIL CompactLarger from JSWolf)

Or perhaps, as I wrote in the post, there are problems with the software?

I might not be able to convince you that I really can't see the difference but I can prove that Kobo's software is buggy.

I took a couple screenshots this morning. The books have all the same settings, same Kobo Nickel font, etc, and yet only the kepub was displayed correctly. The sideloaded ebook was shown with the wrong justification and wrong line spacing.

http://the-digital-reader.com/wp-con...screen_011.png

Since we can clearly show that the formatting is wrong, and since we know that kepubs turn the page faster than sideloaded ebooks, are you really that certain that Kobo didn't also muck up the font rendering on sideloaded ebooks?

I think they got their ebook engine working great in time for launch, and are still working on the one for sideloaded ebooks.

And that's why I recommended waiting for Kobo to fix the software.
