Please. ![]() I really expected the Glo HD to be comparable to the Voyage (and better than the H2O). I hope it is some trivial software problem. |

Didn't Nate say he dropped his GloHD review unit at one point?

Frankly that is an absurd review. If he cannot distinguish the original paperwhite OR the PW2 from the Glo HD screen then he is either
1. Lying 2. Got a wacky defective Glo HD 3. Is pulling our leg. The difference in resolution and readability between the PW units and the Glo HD is so obvious that this opinion is not credible and silly. |

----------------------------- About the font weight thing. To give a better proof of concept, I decided to do it myself (not too shabby for my first epub :P). Here is an epub, I created with font weight that varies in thickness (boldness). It's going to be nearly one week before I receive my Voyage, so I couldn't test it out (your feedback/screenshot would be greatly appreciated). ![]() Give it a try, hopefully you find it useful. ![]() Last edited by Fx_; 05-10-2015 at 12:58 AM. |

Sure, a manufactorer wants his money back, and sure he wants to make some profit, but if I make a very bad tablet or e-reader and price it high, that should be according to you, an indicator of how much engineering there is in, that is what the commercial part of the company wants you to believe. By example, some years ago you have a tv brand Called Aristona, and it was rather low in price against a competition company called Philips which is much more expensive. The high price was defended with the story that the Philips components are much better. It worked and the commercials against Aristona from Philips get more and more agressive. They used Aristona to defend their higher prices. If Philips was a device class A, then Aristona was a class G or something, they even give the retailers more marge on the Philips so they use Aristona only for an example: "It is so cheap, it just can't be good, and yes Philips is much more expensive but you pay for quality !" On Philips you got 3 years warrantee,on Aristona only 1. Later on,they discovered that in the inside of Aristona devices, are only Philips parts and even later they discovered that the production of Aristona was made completely in the Philips factory. They only made the brand Aristona to make the price of the Philips even more higher. And if people still buy an Aristona, they get the money also. Grundig did the same with Vestel, Grundig mainly made in Germany, but Vestel was from a Grundig factory in Turkey, Grundig was the best, Vestel was the most worst (in the commercials) Most of the time in this day, you pay for the brand and marketing, not for the quality. But there are more costs like copyrights of dictionary's and used fonts that are in the price. Maybe Kobo uses cheaper fonts, cheaper dictionary's then Voyage, but cheaper doesn't mean it has a lower quality, only different. (But you can use custom fonts and dictionary's in the Kobo.) But again, you made your choice on your own arguments and that is very fine, I am not a Kobo guy,you don't have to defend your choice. I am not saying that Kobo is better then Voyager or vice versa, but the difference in price does not justify the "difference" in quality. Only some arguments are a bit odd for me,but because English is not my native language,I can't deal with every part of your explaination. If u want,we can go on with this discussion in private messages ? Last edited by Nick_1964; 05-10-2015 at 06:08 AM. |

But my Glo HD is literally painfully slow turning pages. That is running epubs, not kepubs. What kinds of speeds are other people getting? I am comparing it to a Nook ST (rooted, using Alreader) and a Sony T2. Both seem faster. One difference is that the T2 and the Nook seem to merge the two pages. It's hard to explain. But the Kobo seems to clear the screen entirely between pages. I'm not talking about the page-refresh every six page turns. What speeds are other people getting? Please state what you are comparing it to. Perhaps the problem is not common to all Glo HDs? |

In practice, I never convert a book in kepub, but there are a lot of people only want the kepub. If I want to try an Voyage, I have to order it in Germany or Great Britain, they are about 195 euro's compared to a glo HD that is about 120 euro's and you can buy from june 1st in almost every shop. When I could compare both I could defend both from my point of view, but it will be "colored" by my preferences... |
