I do not have this problem with the Glo HD. I had it on the Voyage which I returned. My screen is very uniform. Just to be clear, only one person has mentioned it.

That said though, I really haven't read many reports of screen problems on the Glo HD, and my screen is in fact a perfect even color from top to bottom, the usual cones around the LEDs aren't even noticeable like on the regular Glo. I think it's more just the luck of the draw on the screen, like seeing very different colors from pure white to a bluish tint to a yellowish tint on the same ereader make. If you're not happy with the color, I'd return it. Last edited by Ripplinger; 05-05-2015 at 07:11 AM. |

I should add that if you want the advanced font controls to work, you'll have to use GeoffR's patch and enable the `Freedom to advanced fonts control` patch. Otherwise they work, but the font weight adjustment does nothing without the patch.

The screen light is quite bluish. I can't see me using it at above 10% so I would have like lower gradations. The lowest setting is higher than the lowest setting on a PW2, but is much more even at that setting. It is remarkably uniform, even at 1%. I can see the lights at the bottom but I don't care. I would have like lower gradations but I don't know that they would have been practically useful. The lower settings on the PW2 light are unusable, but it's nice to have the control.
I'll probably install the night-mode inverted screen to see how that works with the light. Last edited by Rizla; 05-05-2015 at 09:00 AM. |

The screen is very clear. I think it will benefit people more that use small fonts or light-weight fonts. I use Caecilia Bold, so it's not as noticeable on this screen. It's really when things are small and thin that it stands out.
And the sleep-cover is good too. I'm not mad about the fold-over bit, but it does more securely close the e-reader and is not uncomfortable to use once folded over. The e-reader in the case is extremely compact and has a nice solid feel. No complaints. For the price, I think it must be unbeatable. There is no way I'd pay an extra $80-100 for a Voyage. It would be madness. Last edited by Rizla; 05-05-2015 at 08:57 AM. |

I'm having some minor issues correctly formatting epubs, so I suppose this is what some people complain about as "bugs." This doesn't bother me as I'm quite happy fricking with stuff a bit to get it to work exactly as I want it. Over all, I like the flexibility and potential of the device.

I must say, the customizability / tweakiness of the Kobo is excellent. There's a lot to it, but if one wants to explore the device, there's a lot here. |

On the Chapters site, it reads: "Kobo eReaders must be returned to one of our Chapters, Indigo or Coles stores." Last I heard, someone who wanted to return a device from the U.S. was told to find someone in Canada who could walk it into a store for them. The Kobo site doesn't have a clear policy on returns anywhere on their site (that I could find), though I gather if you purchase a defective device from another vendor (e.g., Chapters or an indie bookstore), they may exchange it? The indie bookstores I contacted either never responded or responded that they do not accept returns on Kobo readers at all. I'm not trying to be snarky or troll-ish. I am very tempted by Kobo devices. I've even put them in an online shopping cart several times. But I always stop short of clicking the "buy" button when I think about the return process if I am one of the unlucky few who happen to get a bad screen (not common, I know, but it happens). If you buy from Kobo themselves are there not well-defined rules in the US about what an online vendor must do in the event of a faulty device? In the UK (in fact probably the whole EU) if you buy online you have a right to a 14-day cooling-off period to return for any reason at all for a full refund. Although I believe you're liable for all postage costs incurred if the item is not actually faulty - probably to discourage ordering with no intent to keep.
