Want to move metadata.db, can't find it

I am trying to get Calibre installed in my environment. I am having multiple problems.

First, I do not keep data on my boot drive. It complicates having to restore the system if there is a significant problem. I have been able to get the library to drive D. But I can not find metadata.db, and I need to move that as well. It would seem to me that it ought to be in the library directory,; but there is no sign of it. The information I have seen about where it is, is unfortunately not understandable to me. I have tried looking it higher level directories for the database; no joy. Can someone explain how to find it and convince Calibre that I need to move it? Additional problem. I have added DeDRM (I think). Between the Calibre application being based in X-inx, and designed for document people, I am having a hard time coping. It appears that installing DeDRM actually presents a zip file to the Calibre plug-in installer. Not a common situation in the Windows environment. And I found no clue in the installation instructions either in the plug-in or Calibre that that was what was being required. I think it installed, but listing installed plug-ins within Calibre does not show it. Another way to look (I don't remember) showed it was installed. Is there a way to verify it is in there? I am not doing well in moving data bearing files from the boot disk to where I want them. My confusion about many other things is immense; but I need to get these things resolved. This thing is a bit nasty for a Windows user that just wants to build a library that works with multiple devices and sources. Many (most) of the application functions are not of interest to me. I just want a shelf that I can download a book into, find it when I want it, and read it from whatever I am holding in my hand. Help would be appreciated. |

@alternety - I get the feeling that you might be over-thinking things.

If there's no metadata.db file in the said folder, then by definition its not a calibre library, its the presence of the metadata.db file that 'defines' the folder as a valid calibre library. If the library with it's metadata.db file is still on the boot drive then use calibre's Library->Switch/Create->Move current library to new location feature - eg the following would move the library at D:\Calibre Libraries\_Main to G:\Somewhere Calibre plugins are zip files, you don't have to do anything other than install them. Most PI's are here ar MobileRead ==>> Calibre Plugins @ Mobileread. There's a sticky thread with an index at the top of that sub-forum. You can get the PI's you see there there via Preferences->Plugins->Get New plugins. The DeDRM PI is an exception, it must be installed installed manually via Preferences->Plugins->Load plugin from file, just browse to the zip file you downloaded and press OK. BR |

Also, Preferences ==> Plugins will list all installed plugins no matter their source. There is a search box, and a checkbox to List Only User-Installed Plugins.

Thanks. First item - Yes the database is where it is supposed to be in the library folder. How I missed it; no idea. But dumb.

The DeDRM - I thought harder and found it. It is on a different list. Overall, not very impressive level of work. Sorry to have bothered you. You are also correct in that I over think things. |
