cannot download book
I'm trying to download the little-house books uploaded by Patricia.
opens a window that says I'm not allowed to post (yet) - this is strange because I'm registered for years, am logged in and have downloaded books in the past.

has anything changed lately?

The Little House books are not in the public domain in the US and the downloads will not be available now that MR policy has changed.

US copyright has nothing to do with it. It's life+70 copyright (and US is not life+70) that matters.

The, it's the other way around. They are in the US public domain; they are not in the "Life+70" public domain. It would, therefore, be illegal for the original poster, who is in Germany, to download them.

I screwed up on Life+70 and US public domain as the foundation of MR policy, but the books aren't in the public domain in the US in any case.

It raises an interesting issue, doesn't it? The reason it's cheap and available in Kobo Canada is because it's in the public domain. Someone with no rights to it has packaged it and slapped a price on it.

Interestingly, only one Little House book is available for free download in Canada at the usual place, Little House in the Big Woods. None of the others have been converted.
