You're basing that on a single data point?

From what I have seen in reviews GlowHD is really easy to open to replace internal uSD 2GB card with larger up to 32GB uSD card. Also easy to copy image of original internal 2GB card to larger card and expanding partition to use unallocated space on larger card is also easy if you can follow instructions. Someone will soon post on youtube how to this for GlowHD.

It is the logical thing for them to do, and behold, they have done it.

Logical for your needs, perhaps. Logical for my needs, perhaps. Logical for the person who has several thousand novels and is willing to wait a few days for the database to be updated ... er, maybe that isn't the best argument. But it may be logical for the person who has a few hundred large books, may it be due to illustrations in children's books or photos in non-fiction books, comics/graphic novels, or PDFs. The Glo HD may have upgradable non-volatile memory, but it is a non-trivial process that is inaccessible to most people.

It is also worth noting that the Glo HD is only the latest model, so it does not indicate a trend. Indeed, the recently introduced H2O does have an external uSD slot. The Glo HD is by no means the only Kobo without an external uSD slot, the older Mini is an example. Given Kobo's tendency to introduce a range of well differentiated devices, I suspect that they will continue to produce and develop models with and without the slot. Then again, it may prove to be an anomaly, like the capacitive touchscreen on the Aura.

IMHO it seems pretty likely that the removal of the external SD slot on the Glo HD is not a signal of change in direction by Kobo but a cost saving decision on this one model so they can try to offer a better package than Amazon's equivalent mid-range reader for the same price.

A post worthy of JSWolf, only in an opposite and equal forum. We should lock you two in a sub-forum together.

@OP. Warning: The Kobo Glo's front-light is rather bright at its lowest setting, so may be uncomfortable in a very dark room. Personally I don't think I could use any front-light in that setting, but that's not everyone's case. If you can get a cheap used one though...

The new Kobo Glo HD is a great price, and though it lacks an external SD-card, it seems likely that that the internal SD-card can be replaced with a larger one, if you have a little tech know-how and can follow instructions.

Touché.

Actually, I was hoping JSWolf would spot that and respond. () But he appears not to have noticed...

Thanks for the input. I think I will go with the H2O. Seems to fit my requirements best.

Good choice really. It does have that extra desirable feature of being water proof. Makes for a shockingly nice clean up when needed. I have the H20 and it does function under water in point of fact, one of the ads show it being used in a swimming pool with a synchronized swim. But I have used in the bath and yes it works under water.

regards
