My Glo HD arrived yesterday as well. I haven't done much reading on it yet but the screen in my opinion is just as nice as my H2O.

My Kobo Glo HD arrived yesterday, to my pleasant surprise. I hadn't gotten any kind of communication after my initial order was confirmed on April 24th.

This is my first Kobo device and so far I like it a lot. The device is surprisingly small and light. I like the rubberish backing, which seems to facilitate easier holding of the reader. The screen is amazing, and the front light works very well. It is very responsive.

I had to upgrade Calibre to the latest version in order to get Calibre to recognize the device. Sideloading works fine.

I really, really like the integration with Pocket.

So far, so good!

So far, they have agreed to refund my money, just takes them forever to respond. I should know better than buy the first production model of any device. Better to be patient and wait till they've worked out all the flaws and kinks. I've had my mini for two years with no problems (even the battery is holding up).

May I ask if you ordered this from Kobo or Chapters?

I hear Chapters won't take returns from U.S. customers, they simply refer you to Kobo. I'm wondering if Kobo will provide a refund for a defective device, even if it's purchased from Chapters or an independent bookseller.

I'm always wary of buying first production models, but sometimes I can't help myself and buy it anyway

I went and got a small form-factor Win7 PC just to keep using Calibre past version 2.0.0 several weeks ago despite thinking I could live on 2.0.0 forever. Glad I did because I've obviously come up against the first major problem.

(My GloHD arrived this morning. Still boxed, though.)

I know should read behind, but can one still plop epubs in the root folder of the device once mounted via USB???

Seriously? It's not like there are hordes of people posting that their Glo HD died shortly after receiving it. Doesn't matter how long you wait into the production cycle, they're never going to have a zero percent failure rate. You were very likely unlucky and happened to get a manufacturing defect, totally unrelated to this being a new product.

How long is everyone's Kobo shipping after they received the email confirmation on shipment?

I just did a pre-order (a few hours before actual release date) and the package is expected to arrive in US on 22 May. I am hoping it would be earlier so I can get to ship it back to Singapore in time for my holiday, oh well.
