As the name suggests, the extended driver extends the function of the main KoboTouch driver. That means that once the main driver supports the Kobo ereader or firmware version, the extended driver supports them as well.

In the Preferences Window, click the Misc. Button. There's a function there to debug device detection. If you follow the instructions, you can configure the Kobo as a User Defined USB device. There will be no database integration, so Calibre will not be able to manage series information or otherwise manipulate metadata. This also means you probably should not remove books from Calibre, but do so only on the kobo itself.

It might not be ideal, but Kobos work well enough that way.

Yes, that will work. But, don't worry about deleting any books. When the ereader is disconnected, the firmware checks for new and missing books. Missing books are deleted from the device database. In early firmware, this wasn't the case, but has been this way for a long time.

But, I am afraid it go's off topic, but I have many empty collections on my Kobo's where the books are deleted but the collection still exist, it would be great that is there are no longer books in a collection, that collection would be deleted, now you see the name of the collection with: 0 books at your library.

How is the device supposed to know the difference between a collection that you have removed all the books from and don't need and a collection you have removed all the books from and are about to add more books to? Or a new collection you haven't gotten around to add books to?

But, the KoboTouch driver will do this if the appropriate options are set. In that case it is making an assumption as it is managing the collections.

OK, I went out and bought a Glo HD today. Very nice but it seems tiny compared to the H2O. Now I just have to decide which I am going to use and which I pass to my son. Or maybe my wife.

But, while fiddling, I did the updates necessary to use calibre v1.48 with the Glo HD. And have properly published the plugin. See KoboTouch driver for calibre 1.48.

Be interesting to see which one you end up using. I am still trying to decide between Glo HD and H2O.

You already have them down under? I am shocked. I thought it took a lot longer for you Aussies to get new products.

Congrats on your device, I'd love to hear some impressions.

Not as shocked as I am. When the pre-order page appeared here with the date listed as May 1st, I assumed it was mistake and checked with Kobo. They confirmed we were in the first group.

I'm going to give it a few days, but my first two impressions are:
- The power switch is in the middle not where I'm used to getting to it on the right side.
- They turned the USB port over again. I had just gotten used to the Aura HD which has it the same way as my phone.

Is it slow?

How good is the screen and the font rendering compared to the Glo?

The font rendering is noticeably better than the Glo. But, I've been using an Aura H2O recently, and I'd say they are about the same.

In the goodereader comparison video between the Glo HD and the H2O, both the reviewers noted that the H2O's screen looked noticeably better than the Glo's. Would you agree? I thought that was pretty surprising...

Indeed. This screen has the same specs as the Voyage. I expected it to be better than the H2O. Maybe its the software, as Nate suggests.

I think it will be difficult to see the difference between H2O (265) and Glo HD (300), but between the Glo (200) and the Glo HD (300) the difference is much bigger.
I have the Aura HD, and if the Glo HD will look the same as the Aura HD it is okay for me, if the Glo HD is visible better then the Aura HD, I would bother myself all the time, so the outcome of Davidfor is perfect to me.

I am eagerly waiting for good close-up pictures of the Glo HD vs the H2O screen taken by someone who knows what they are about with a digital camera.
