From about 2:25 he lowers the voyage light and the color change from top to bottom is visible. It's subtle but its there. It would be a lot more noticeable if reading landscape. The kobo screen lacks the color difference at lower levels. The color appears entirely uniform. It does look brighter on one side than the other. Maybe thats an effect in the video. Apart from this the two lights are very comparable.
Another bodgy video from Goodereader, isn't it? They say the Kindle is better at the start - but that seems to be an artifact of it being brighter at 100% brightness than the Kobo, which is irrelevant as 100% brightness in a dark room is not a thing that happens in the world. At no point do they attempt to show the two devices at the same brightness - they just compare 100, 75, 50 and 0, which is a useless thing to do.

(I see what you mean about the colours - blue-green at the bottom and pinkish at the top. I think that would bother me more than the headlamping, but mileage varies.)

I muted it: ) But yeah he never puts them at the same brightness. Maybe its hard to judge in the lighting conditions.

I had it muted originally, but stupidly unmuted it . I agree totally with meera that off the top the Voyage looks better just because it is brighter. It might be nice if they took a few minutes to actually figure out how to use the device (i.e. where to put their finger to change the light level on the Glo HD) before they started using the device too.

David - I bought one this morning from JB HiFi - and it says on the box "4GB internal memory". It has NO slot for external SD card. The original Glo sleep cover also fits like a glove! I also told them their site was giving wrong info! Have uploaded a phot of the settings

What method does the Glo HD use to detect touches?

My finger or soft stylus will work or even light touch with the back end of a pencil!

Only thing I can find that I don't like so far is the screen refresh rate. I had my Glo set to every 12 page turns - but this one does not have the line in the ereader conf file to change
(numPartialUpdatePageTurns=12)
I would add that line but don't know enough to know if I'd completely wreck it if I did:-(

Kobo has never used resistive touch AFAIK (and that article's five years old). It's infrared. Anything can interrupt the beams, hence your pencil and any stylus working.

You can add it with no problems. But, the config file tends to not have entries if the default is chose. So, change it to something other than 6 and the line should appear.

Support for Kobo Glo HD added to calibre v2.26.0

I updated the KoboTouch driver in calibre to include the Glo HD. This is included in todays release which is 2.26.0. The firmware version has also been bumped. This will cover the firmware the Glo HD is getting, 3.14.0, but and the firmware I expect to be released in the next week or so.

Hmmmm... I wonder, with the consumer protection laws in Australia, if JB would have to provide what is advertised: a Glo HD with 2 GB internal and an external slot up to 32 GB?

Why is it the folks at BadEReader feel it's OK to show Kobo Readers poorly? They have Cecelia as the font, whide margin, wide line height and left justified. If All I watched was their videos and I saw Kobo looking that bad, I'd not buy one.
