Clicking Links

I do not know if this is possible but I would love it if links opened in a new tab and not the same page.

I know this is difference but on my website I have a plugin that will open links in a new tab and not the same page. Would it be possible for something similar to happen with MobileRead? I know many people are using mobile/tablet devices nowadays but I am old-fashioned and still use a computer. I know I can right click and open in a new tab but I would love to just be able to click and it open in a new tab.

Has this been tried and it did not work?

It's already an option in the User CP.

Go --> Settings & Options --> Edit Options --> Thread Display Options --> New Window Links, and pick your preferred choice from the dropdown.

Instead of worrying about web site settings I set my browser settings so no matter what web site I am on if a link goes to a different site it will open in a new tab.

I have my FF browser set that way but it has stopped working.

I wish Moz had a means via which one could just get the security fixes without the new features

BR I have that checked in FF but it has never worked for me. Even after fully resetting my computer links still open in the same tab unless I right click and then click on open link in new tab.

There are a couple different extensions that allow doing this, like "Open Link in New Tab" and "Tab Mix Plus".

You can also click the scroll wheel if you have a mouse (instead of a laptop used with the default trackpad).

@KyBunnies - That's odd, maybe another extension or your theme is interfering. My settings are (the other two tabs have the topmost option selected):



But, I do have the previously mentioned MR profile option set to All Links, don't recall ever changing it. And it seems to be the default setting anyway. And I also middle click a lot, my netbook keeps a three legged pet mouse in its pouch

Try creating separate profile. You need to put firefox -p in Start Menu->Run to do that, then install the Open Link in New Tab extension in the new profile. Its quite useful to have an empty profile available for testing, investigating and evaluating extensions.

Another thing to try is disable all other extensions and themes. I found a conflict by doing that only yesterday.

@eschwartz - I stopped using tpm, mainly because of its performance penalty, also I'm not sure it adds much value these days. I use the Tabloc extension to lock tabs - and pin tabs is really useful.

And I use the Open Bookmarks in New Tab extension.

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't know, as I have never used either.

I don't use many extensions, mostly Firefox acts how I like it to. I block ads, use Lastpass, Google Search Link Fix (from editing themselves, wrecks copy-paste) and InlineDisposition2.

As far as "Security fixes but not new features" goes... what about Firefox ESR? It basically does just that, basing off every eighth version and merging the security fixes for each skipped version.

A tad unrealistic to expect security fixes to be backported to any version of Firefox ad infinitum, but this seems to be the closest real-world equivalent, and probably what you meant all along.
