I was just wondering if something with your Linux isn't right and using Windows it would either work or not.

I have occasionally had that problem on my 600. Doing a device shutdown and then rebooting it has always solved the problem.

Thanks Hemmi but if you mean hard re-set by shutdown and rebooting I've already tried a bunch of those with no luck.

A new twist: now the Kindle Touch is not being recognized by the computer. It does seem to be charging though. (The gods don't want me to read ebooks?)

No, not yet, JS. As it is it's stuck on "Opening Book" now. I don't see anything happening until I get it un-stuck from that. Honestly, I'm on the verge of bailing on it. I had the same problem when I put a book on it via Calibre.

And Newegg is charging only $19.00 for it now. Which is a good price but for such a malfunctioning unit it's pretty unethical.

Did these problems happened also before using calibre with your Sony?

Because to me it sounds that your problems started once you used calibre to load books....

The problem I had with Calibre was with the first PRS 300 I had before. (I returned it.) With this one I have not done anything with Calibre.
