Kobo Glo HD

One option many people have done is to replace the internal SD card by a larger one. I for one have a Glo with 8gb internal.

Now on the Aura and Touch N905 (original model) this is not an option due to lack of internal SD card.

Only if it's a released firmware so the patches can be made. 3.14.0 is not released yet for other models so there are no patches yet. Once either 3.14.0 is released and a version for the Glo HD is released or a newer firmware is released, then can the patches be made.

I was actually quite okay with reading Manga on my old Glo. I just love the portability of it. And most Mangas don't have teeny-tiny texts that western comics do. I feel like the H2O would be too big for me.

I'd like another Glo, but it's really hard to find one here. All the official stores that are authorized to sell it have it on"Special Order" status since the Glo's has been officially dropped by Kobo.

Now there are some other "unofficial" stores that sell them, but the prices are outrageous.

But for now I'm content with reading on my phone. I don miss an E-Ink display though.

Well, here's to hoping Kobo doesn't abandon the microSD support in their future models.

Personally, I think it's a ploy for people to use Kobo's bookstore more since microSDs mainly exist for sideloading books. It's only convenient to delete books if you can restore your bookmarks and reading progress without any hassle (or without using any 3rd party programs like Calibre). That's also why all my devices carry my entire library. I'm the type of person to read 10 books at a time and jump from novels to novels.

I got so excited when my friend told me Kobo has released a new model carrying the Glo prefix, but now, not so much.

I'm not that confident with my "engineering" skills. I'd rather have the slot than to tinker with the insides of a device.

I am going to go with the H2O I think, it sounds like it would be the choice for you? I tried a H2O case first to try for size, here I have my Glo inside it.
It's not much bigger.

That's what I also first thought. But the smallish difference in size can be a huge difference in ergonomics. Specially since I'm used to the size of the Glo. But if I ever do see a store that sells the H2O here and get to hold one, I might consider it over the Aura/Glo.

I really really want an E-ink device again. So it's time to save up more just in case I manage to find an H2O floating around.

You would have been better off ordering from Chapters as they charge in CDN and with the exchange rate, you would end up paying less. Chapters does charge shipping to the US, but it still ends up cheaper.

Bol.com (Netherlands-Belgium) says that Kobo maintains the info on the site itself, so they don't know if it is possible to pre-order it because it is Kobo itself that put's it on the Bol.com website, I asked Kobo, but they don't answer so I am afraid that it will take a long,long time, providing other country/market first..
It isn't on the NL kobo page of the Kobo shop itself, not even a commercial.

I'm waiting for my local book store that usually stocks some Kobo readers to call back and let me know if they'll be stocking the Glo HD. If not, I'm going to place an order with Chapters. I really want one of these!

Edit: My local store won't be getting them in this time, they've pretty much stopped selling all Kobo readers. So I just placed my order with Chapters and I'm hoping for a sooner than May 22nd date!

Now to wait for the nicer covers to start appearing (yes, I hate covers with a flap).

I don't know how one person already got a Glo HD delivered. I'm tempted to re-order, but I figure they'll start appearing in stores this week, and we'll see more reviews. We'll see. I can wait, but I think I'll probably get one. I can't see the screens getting much better than this for a while, and certainly not at that price. It's a good deal. It's about time I got a better screen and a front-light, and Kobo has reasonably open software.

Clerk at Chapters told me they have their stock in already, but are not releasing until official release date. (So I ordered on-line,, no point driving back out of town a second time if Staples is mailing them for estimated delivery time on release day.)

They're going to sit on them till May 1st? That's weird.

Sounds like the one already shipped from staples was a mistake.
