Desktop widget to ask CC to "read" a book

I'm really not a widgets type of person (the only widget I have is Google Now) but this function would be nice if implemented properly.

I'm using Smart Launcher 2 Pro. It's minimalistic and doesn't have widgets on the main screen. It has a dedicated widgets page. And it doesn't play well with some apps that have widgets function.

It would be great if you could test it with using this launcher.

I don't know of anyone in the beta program who uses Smart Launcher. Two people use Nova.

I am not excited about messing with launchers on my two test devices because of the side effects. However, if you join the beta program you could test it yourself.

But can you suggest the best way to do it? Like, would the official playstore version share the same library as the beta one? Or do they have their own? And how would that function when transferring books? If there're any info on how to safely do this without messing my CC library then I'll look into it. I'm quite interested in joining the beta testing program...

The test versions (beta and alpha) are released through the play store in exactly the same way as the production versions. They can become the "production version" without change. They use the existing library, if by "library" you mean CC's database.

The only way to run a test version and a production version at the same time is to use two devices. In addition, you cannot easily revert to the previous production version because as far as your device is concerned the test version is a newer production version. On the other hand, we haven't ever had a situation during testing where CC's database was damaged beyond repair. I have had times where I needed to release a fix within hours of a previous release, but even that has been very rare. And indeed, it happened once with the production version.

Bottom line: there is some risk. Many people are unwilling to accept that risk, even if it is small.

Maybe I'm not getting it right. If I ever do sign up as a beta tester, how would my device receive the beta version?

I tell Google Play who is a beta tester by giving it the email address of the account used to purchase CC, something you must give to me if you become a tester. When I put a beta version on Google Play it is automatically offered to all beta testers as a standard update. I name the beta versions with a letter at the end so you know you would get a beta if you accept the update.

Hmmm... I'll give it some thought. I can't commit to anything right now so I don't think I'd be quite helpful in providing frequent feedbacks.
