Man, it's been soooo long since I've done anything with php. I don't know if I'm up for a porting project. I'll take a look, but no promises.

As I am only a pesky user, I was not aware of the pitfall. Sorry for this.
Thanks anyway for having a look. Among the many capabilities Calibre provides, maybe Kovid Goyal has a kind of "translator" in his huge pocket.

Hi Roger,
There is already a python version of smartypants (but not smartypants typographer !) in calibre, located in calibre/utils. It is used by the conversion preprocess but unfortunately dont have all the capabilities of Typographer (french guillemets, non-breaking spaces). Here's the doc : Spoiler:
It could be a good basis for the enhancements you want. But DiapDealer it's up to you, it's not a demand

![]() Still... this does deserve a revisit. I think I volunteered to make it possible to bypass the visual diff/confirm dialog and haven't delivered on that yet.

Not quite. Under Windows, the ampersand in such a menu item means "the next character is a hotkey for this option, so underline it to indicate that to the user." I believe using a double-ampersand will negate that, but I'm not sure what it would do on non-Windows systems. Removing the ampersand is probably the safest multi-platform choice; in this case, "Edit Spans/Divs" might work better.

Yep. The menu system is dutifully underlining the space that follows the ampersand.
I distinctly remember the ampersand displaying on my Windows machine at one point, but now I too, see the "Edit Spans _Divs." Bob's right, I need to just get rid of the ampersand. There's actually some horrid file/variable naming in general going on here, too, that I should clean up someday.

Would just a simple Yes/No dialog prompt, to allow skipping the generation of the difference data/display suffice? Similar to the way the calibre built-in feature works?
