Don't know the Agincourt one, and don't have it. But have all the Sharpe's through 24, the three Grail Quest, and the three Warlord. Will have to look for a good deal on the Agincourt one, or maybe the BC Library has it? Not going to pay >$11 for it.

Next up is The Innocent by David Baldacci (Will Robie series #1). I have been waiting a while for this and it just came in from the library. I was really wanting some political thrillers a couple months ago so reserved a bunch of first books. After this I will decide which, if any, to continue.

I am also going to try to get West with the Night for the book club, either through a KU trial or in paper form from my library if available.

Time to do some catch up:
I liked The Innocent and will try to continue this series at some point.
West with the Night was an excellent travel/adventure story. See the book club for more discussion on that.
His Last Bow (Sherlock Holmes 8) was ok but not my favorite SH.
Death's Hand (Descent Series 1) was ok but not really my thing. Skipping the rest of this series.
The Alloy of Law was very good and I look forward to the follow-up trilogy, although I expect I won't start that for 3-4 years.
Fool's Errand (Tawny Man 1) was excellent and ended without much of a cliffhanger which is very unusual for the first book in a trilogy. Yay! I will continue the series at some point but I don't feel compelled to do so right now.

Next up: War of Honor (Honor Harrington 10) by David Weber

I have to agree. I pretty much had to give up the series at this point.

I have just finished the prologue at this point and was very much considering doing this even before I saw your comments. Not a good sign. Anyone know if there is a good synopsis somewhere so I can at least figure out where things go from here? I will still give the first couple chapters a shot, but I am not holding out much hope at this point. I am not planning on reading the anthologies at this point and am just interested in the main series.

You've presumably looked on Wikipedia? They have plot summaries for most reasonably popular books.

I haven't really looked around yet since I am still going to try out the first few chapters, but I will check there if it gets to that point. For the most part I find their summaries a little too summarized so I was hoping for a little more than a typical wiki summary. For this specific book it might be enough though, I just didn't want to try to find out until I make up my mind.

Example from the previous book, Ashes of Victory, of the types of detail that are missing from a typical wikipedia article:

After the daring attacks featured in the previous novel, the People's Republic of Haven seems to have the initiative. However, Manticore has a trump card that has the potential to end the war, in the form of devastatingly effective new technology and weapons fully integrated into a new massive heavy assault force, known as 8th fleet. The Star Kingdom's navy bides time, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.

They talk about "new technology" but nowhere does the wikipedia article describe it, so going into War of Honor I wouldn't have any idea what it was or how it changed the tactics for the current book. These books have all built on each other with the tactics and technology in one being used and advanced upon in the next, so not knowing details like that could be fairly significant. I certainly don't think a lot of the details are necessary but ones that change the course of the war certainly are since they are sure to show up again. Maybe he will describe it again in the following book, but ???

Don't worry. I'd have to look, but I'd be willing to bet that all you need to know will be in the first few chapters of the next one. Along with several chapters repeated word for word from it, most likely. Really, Mr. Weber needs an editor with a large red pencil making sweeping strokes through his pages.

Had a really good run of books recently. I've just finished East of Eden which I loved. For some reason I was expecting Steinbeck to be more difficult for me to get into, but I could not have been more wrong - I found it well paced, engagingly written, and moving in some parts, though not exactly subtle in others. I'm definitely keen to read more of his work.

Now reading A Tale for the Time Being. I'm enjoying the diary parts set in Japan - I really like Naoko's voice. However, I'm less sold on the (author insert?) parts with "Ruth". Those drag and feel kind of whiny to me, so far.

Am currently listening to The Innocent and enjoying it very much. Haven't read The Alloy of Law yet, but it's on my wishlist.

I have to admit that I've enjoyed reading every one of the Honor Harrington (and related) books, even the ones that weren't as good as others. Although its fun reading the Manticore Ascending prequel books, I'm ready for another one starring Honor.

Oh, I enjoy them. But War of Honor was a good 400 page book struggling to escape from 800 pages of bad book. I actually thought that the best Honor book in the last few years was the one that was co-written with Eric Flint. Who writes a much tighter hand.
