Probably how it works with books. The first time you "see" a character is how it sticks. Maybe you change a bit here and there as details get described, but basically stays really close to what it originally appeared.

It is a good thing that taste is a matter of opinion. And opinion varies from one person to another.

Yup, actually the Harry in my head resembles Paul Blackthorne quite a bit I am afraid. Strange, since I watched the show after I already read around 6 books...

That is a nice painting. I like it. He looks very handsome (right word there?) - I might just have to stop visualizing Harry in my head and take it one step at a time while reading. When I read he changes a lot, I suppose. And I can never quite see all of it at once. He says how he got scars, but never quite says where and how exactly. A good thing too, as this way Jim does not have to remember where and how the scars are - and a lot of them we never hear about how exactly they happen.

I just want to teach Jim Butcher (www.jim-butcher.com) parkour.

We had a super rough winter in NYC this year with snow on the ground for three straight months and below zero F temperatures pretty consistently for most of January and February. These are clips from December and March training, plus some lifting stuff. This winter's focus was mainly on getting my power and strength levels up. And that's pretty much what happened Enjoy it and stay tuned for some cool stuff from my Europe trip with Myrm in April/May!

Stacey Whittle: Okay, first off I don't think my choice is a proper "sidekick" but it's a great excuse to talk about one of my favourite female characters in genre fiction and I think I can get away with it so forgive me. Karrin Murphy from Jim Butcher's brilliant Dresden Files series is wonderful. She is a martial artist, a competitive markswomen and at the beginning of the series a Lieutenant in the Chicago Police Department. She is one of the most well-rounded female characters I have read in a long time.

Murph is strong, funny, loyal and smart, but she isn't a hard-arse. She does the things that need to be done – even when terrified – and she isn't afraid to show her emotions. I love Karrin Murphy and though there is a "will they won't they" vibe sometimes throughout the book, it doesn't dominate her and Harry's relationship and they make a fantastic double act.

If you haven't jumped aboard the Dresden Express yet, can I also take this opportunity to push you to do so. I love this series, it has made me laugh out loud in public, be terrified to the point of having to have the book right up to my nose (does anyone else do that?) and sob my heart out. It's clever and funny and complex much like Murph herself.

Here's a 'heads-up' for you Jim Butcher fans who are also fans of this series. I'd previously read the first 4 Alex Verus books and I just accidently stumbled on this recently published (September 2nd 2014) 5th book in that series, Hidden (Alex Verus #5) by Benedict Jacka! I'm reading it now!
