See, this is the problem... why would the current developer of XD want to keep supporting a plugin which is of use only to an app which is no longer being supported by *its* developer. I must confess, I am really disappointed with Kris over this whole thing. I actually don't use Marvin much anymore, but I did pay for it, just because I felt that was the right thing to do. And now, its pretty much become abandonware. I think he should make it free again, if he's only going to work on Gerty (which is a waste of space, IMO)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I believe he said that Marvin will continue to be developed and supported.

GRiker is offline and has been for a while. Although it was nominally taken over by Philantrop, nothing really has been done since then. A few USB IDs were added by yet other people, and ShellShock found fixes for libimobiledevice (bundled in calibre itself).

I too can't connect my IPAD Marvin app to Calibre running on my Windows 7 Desktop, having upgraded to IOS 8.3.
On another IPAD, running 8.2 -- all's well.

Just upgraded my iPad Retina Mini to iOS 8.3. No problems at all. A definite improvement over the 7.x I was running previously.

Harry, I assume you do not use the Calibre connector in Marvin, to get Marvin and calibre talking to each other?

Correct - I don't use Marvin. This thread isn't about Marvin, though; it's about iOS 8.3.

I only asked because Dspils in the post immediately before yours was reporting problems with Marvin/Calibre and 8.3. If someone got Marvin/Calibre and 8.3 working, now that would be interesting.

Yes, we know that any application which tries to access the filestore of a different app is going to stop working in iOS 8.3, because Apple have tightened up the security (just as Google did with Android a couple of versions ago). Any such app will need to be re-written to use Apple's new APIs.

I certainly wouldn't gauge iOS 8.3 based on a very small niche of folks who use calibre and Marvin in combination. Outside this forum, few people probably even use them together. Think small niche. The calibre and Marvin discussion should be done in the appropriate sections of MR where people actually give a hoot about it. This thread is not the appropriate place for that discussion.

Certainly all the apps that I personally use work well in 8.3. Compared to the 7.something I was running previously, I'm seeing definite improvements in Safari and the mail app.

8.3 is much more stable for me, all my lock ups and disconnects seam to have disappeared.

The comments on the page linked above (http://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/13/...ox-app-access/) show that some people are very angry at this move on Apple's part that prevents easy access to their files. I can understand this, but personally I'm glad that my personal data is a bit safer as a result.

I am going to go back to 8.2 just so I can fish out some drawings from a Procreate Pocket backup. You can't even reload apps with data anymore. Shame.

It's a good move, but not when trying to do restore points with your apps.
