update clusterfrack
Hi --
After finding out (quite by accident) that there was a firmware update for the M96, I decided to download and install it. My device has been unusable for months. I'm told it's the digitizer and that a replacement, which is on the way, will fix the problem (in a nutshell the M96 typically ignores what I want it to do and does what it apparently prefers, rather randomly ... which makes it a bit difficult to use). I thought "well, installing a firmware update couldn't hurt." Sigh. I downloaded the update and attempted to copy it to the root volume (I admit I am typically unclear whether this means '/' or '/root'), but was told there was not sufficient space. OK, I thought, I'll delete some of these weighty apps, since apparently this update disables Google Play Store functionality, and since the apps never worked correctly anyway (I mean, as far as I could tell, with the M96 disobeying my requests). Somehow -- I can't remember how/why -- I ended up trying to find the update via " Settings -> About ->System Update -> Check Update from local Storage", and it detected ... something. I'm guessing it was probably the last update. I (foolishly, as it turned out) installed it ... After the device rebooted, a message came up saying that there was a problem with the 'e-signature' or something (wish I'd had the presence of mind to write down the exact words) and that the upgrade couldn't proceed. Okay, I thought, well surely you are smart enough to fall back to the previously-installed version ... No such luck, apparently. Nice design, Boox. ![]() I am now stuck with an M96 screen that has an "Unfortunately, Content Browser has stopped" pop-up glued to it for eternity. I have poked and poked at this with the stylus, to no avail. I have re-booted. It will not go away. So ... uhm, WTF? And is there a way to get my device back into a state where it will do anything? Am getting ready to completely give up -- again. My blood pressure cannot take this. /Glenn |

Not sure what you were trying to achieve by copying stuff to the root directory... anyway I'd try going along the guidelines in this topic:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=255435 it should take your device back to some stable version of the firmware. |

Hmm. The steps outlined by kuskro are clear enough -- but I can't get any screen to show up on the M96, so I doubt I will be able to get USB Debugging turned on.

Oh, now I get it. Sorry, somehow I imagined, that you rooted your device or something :P
Well, since your M96 is useless, you could try following kuskro guidelines without debugging mode. If it doesn't work, nothing will happen anyway. |

Then, make sure USB debugging mode of your M96 is On (Apps->Settings-> Developer options->USB Debugging should be checked). After, follow my thread to convert your devices to Booxtor and install 20141013 update using recovery again. And finally enhance your devices with the instructions of this thread. ![]() Last edited by kuskro; 04-17-2015 at 10:39 AM. |

Did the factory reset last night. The M96 is back to its mostly-unusable state, minus a couple of firmware versions.

So ... has anyone done the digitizer replacement on the M96? If so, how did it go?
