Reading Recommendations Suggestion

I think the Reading Recommendations section would be more useful if it included stickies for various genres, similar to what's been done in the Deals section. I would like to be able to look for suggestions and reviews of books by category. Although every once in a while someone will ask for suggestions in a certain genre or subgenre, those posts soon get buried. And the "What are we reading" sticky is unwieldy and amorphous.

You wouldn't need as many stickies as are included in the Deals section, and those still allow for other page one threads: e.g., Mystery/Thriller, SFF, Romance, Other Genre Fiction, General Fiction, Nonfiction.

I would also like to see stickies or something here, but I'm not sure what you mean by this statement. The categories I want are already there, but there haven't been any posts in those categories for years.

Dale's saying that the facility already exists. It's no different adding a recommendation to an old thread than to a new one. Nobody's suggesting that anyone "wade through hundreds of old threads".

I would recommend a feature with which we could rate books (say one to five stars) and a separate sticky for it. So, you read a book and want to rate it, you go to the Rating sticky, enter the book title and rate it. If it doesn't come up, click an icon that sends a note to a moderator asking him to add that book to the list. This way, you could quickly check on a books or authors you're interested in to see what others think. Same feature exists on Goodreads but might be nice to have on MobileRead. I started a thread for MR recommendations in a couple of genres. Listopias allow for ranking of the books by number of MR members that have recommended a particular book. It would be nice to have genre-based discussions that are stickied.

And that's somehow easier than adding a few genre stickies that would be visible and self-updating because people might actually use them? I'm sorry I ever said a word about this. There's nothing like being immediately shot down without the suggestion even being considered.

I was unaware that creating a handful of stickies and letting people post in them was such an enormous burden. Forget it. I don't need the attitude. Why have a feedback section at all?

Perhaps we could write the software so that, if a book isn't already listed, any member could click an ADD button and then enter a new book.

Best thing to do would be to send a PM to the board owner, Alexander Turcic. Unfortunately he's not been around much recently.
