I don't think that we watch any network--I've tried some things lately, and don't much care for what's out there. And all that reality stuff--not my bag. I've found some stuff I like on FX, however (which of course is Fox in disguise), like Justified. (Elmore Leonard, RIP, what's not to love?)

We mostly live on the streaming stuff. Most of the movies on the "premium" channels on DirecTV aren't really our thing, either; rom-coms, etc. I like some of what's on PBS, agreed. I mean, hell--I'll miss Downton when it wraps up next year, I admit it. And some of the MMystery stuff is pretty good, although I have not liked the last seasons of Poirot nor the latest Miss Marples, not at all. I liked whats-its, the new crime-solving Priest with whats-is-name from Wire in the Blood...right, Robson Green. ;-)

@Cromag:

Yes, and I'm reading one right now that I hope will live up to its promise, strictly for entertainment. I've been reading tons of non-fiction the past 4-5 months, with the server migration, the new website, learning new 'stuff' like Bootstrap, etc., so my brain likes the occasional brain-candy of watching the mindless that is Telly.

And tonight--oh, boy!!! Taxes!

Well, one you might not have tried that surprised me was a made for Amazon one - Mozart in the Jungle. I didn't expect much, was going to give it a bye, and was quite pleasantly surprised. And Bosch, of course, is all I could have hoped for. I'm parsing it out slowly to make it last.

OTOH, there's enough stuff on Acorn to keep me in TV for the next two years. Still 4 years of Pie in the Sky I haven't seen, but sadly, I've only got a single episode of Sarrangoon Road to go. And apparently they're not going to do a second season.

Hi:

Hadn't tried Mozart, but I'm definitely with you, 100% on Bosch. Excellent. Gives me hope for MFA (Made for Amazon).

On Acorn--I admit it, in "cozy" category, I have watched all of PITS, and I've even started to rewatch it. I have an oddball viewing body clock--late at night, my taste veers to cozies of any type (Murder in Paradise, Agathas of all sizes/shapes, Midsomer Murders, et al). I also liked Murder in Suburbia more than I'd expected, probably due to Caroline Catz/Katz (sp?). I loved her in Doc whoosie-whatsis (typical Fish out of water story). I met "Murdoch" (the Canadian version) there, and found it very enjoyable

I, too, was really bummed about Serangoon not having a 2nd season. I think that's partly because the female love interest was so grossly miscast, but I could have happily watched a few years of that. Beware the dreadful "Jamaica Inn" one, though...ye gods. Somewhere, Daphne is rolling in her grave.

They have a lot of humor that doesn't really do for me (I am still gobsmacked that one of their staff picks was Black Books--I forced myself to sit through a second episode, to see if I simply hadn't given it enough time to catch with me), but the mysteries are really fun. (Oh, and that one with the family in Africa...lord. I tried, I did. 3-4 episodes, and decided I'd have fed that youngest brat to some predator myself. Couldn't make myself watch any more of them. I guess family shows just aren't my bag.)

if you haven't tried the Flower chicks--Rosemary and Thyme--utterly silly and fun Cozie stuff. Was sorry it was cancelled, and it was a visual feast in each epi.

Now you've got me all off on cozies, my brain can't pull up some of the edgier stuff that they have...Oh, I liked Jack Irish, from OZ. And something Taylor, an Irish import. Lovely.

Oh! Hulu has the odd show that I like here and there, that you can't find anywhere else. I really HATE paying them, as they have commercials that you can't even speed through, but OTOH, I can watch two years of Hulu (and thus, all seasons of New Tricks) for less than I can buy aforementioned New Tricks on Amazon. There was one...Endgame, a Canadian show, with an agoraphobic Chess Master solving mysteries in a 5-star hotel. Silly, but fun.

Also on Acorn, though I'm sure you already know it, are Miss Fisher's Mysteries. This is an ABC (Australian) production of the Phryne Fisher books of Kerry Greenwood, and they are superb. If you haven't tried them, you're in for a treat. 1928 Melbourne.

I've seen them. I love the Dot casting. I'm a bit more ambiguous in my feelings about the casting for Miss Fisher herself, as in the books, she's 28, not 40+. And while the actress is certainly in extraordinary shape, and I credit her for that, she's not 28. Nor even 38. She would, I concur, have been absolutely freaking perfect for Ms. Fisher 10 years ago, but she's just a teeny, weeny bit--I hate to say it, I do--too old for the part.

Nonetheless, as you say, lovely fun. Speaking of shows from Down Under, what did you think of the Mr. and Mrs. Murder thing?

And if anyone wants, I can get very rant-y about the casting of Miss Fisher, to keep this thread vexed. I do have ONE big one today:

TAXES!!! FREAKING TAXES!!!!

Done now.

In my opinion Moby Dick is a great book embedded in about 80% unnecessary filler material. It contains some precious literary gems for those with the patience to struggle through the mire to find them. I found the seemingly endless parade of chapters devoted to descriptions of the various types of whales to be tedious in the extreme.

Now see, I didn't feel that way about Phryne at all. I thought Essie Davis was perfect. She didn't look or feel long in the tooth at all. Of course, that may be because I'm looking BACK at either of those ages by a LOT.

Ashleigh Cummings as Dot is, as you say, perfect. But mostly I just love the series and the books, which I would never have discovered if our local PBS equivalent broadcaster hadn't bought them long before they were available in the US.

Have not watched the Mr. and Mrs. Murder. Will have to give it a try. Did watch Rosemary & Thyme when it was on PBS. Not sure I'm up for a re-watch. Not nearly as thrilled with Murdoch Mysteries as you. Way too many anachronisms for me. I have tried it a couple of times, but it just didn't work somehow.

Bright blue skies and sunshine here, 100°f making the perfect day to go out and have a nation-wide water fight! No one minds the heat when you're constantly getting buckets of cool water thrown at you! You can't walk more than 10 steps without getting splashed!

Hey, I started my journey just 2-3 miles from where you're sitting right now. If I can make it, you can too. Just head towards Korea and turn a bit left...

All the warm weather you could ever want!

So fed up with mobile data coverage here where I live, tried downloading additional data for a game I got on the play store, but I can't get past 15% before it complains that there is no data connection available.
