Is there a maximum epub file size limit?

Hi,

Is there an epub file-size limit for the Kobo Touch? I bought some Complete Works/Collections off Google Play (Delphi complete) and it's not showing up in the e-reader*. It does show up in the directory listing when I plug it in to the laptop though.

I have tried to search the forums but haven't managed to find anything on this.

Thanks.

*I have tried loading it via Adobe DE, I've tried stripping the DRM and loading it via Calibre. I have even tried stripping it off DRM (Calibre) and then side loading it into the reader. None of the other files are affected so I thought it may be the file size?

I have never heard of a maximum epub size. I do have a 5.4MB book that has over 400 chapters in it. The book doesn't have a cover in it, so that is just text. I have bigger epubs, but they have pictures in them and not as many chapters.

It is more likely that there is a problem with the epub and the firmware cannot process it properly. When you put the epub on the device and disconnected, it should have been processed and the details of the book put into the internal database. This database is used for the library lists. This can fail if any book in that batch of new books will not be added to the database. If this is the case, you will need too take all the non-processed books off the device and add them in small batches, or singly, until you work out which is at fault.

As you are using calibre, you could strip the DRM and then do an epub-to-epub conversion. This will usually remove any errors and the books will load. Or, you could use the Epub Split plugin to split the collection into the individual books. This would probably fix any problems as well.

My biggest book weighs 122 MB, with over 1000 pages and many pictures. Opening it with the Calibre reader is long, and very very long with Sigil, but I read it on my kobo with no problem and no delays reading, nor jumping back and forth.

Once you have the drm removed and it in calibre, you may want to try converting it into ePub which may fix whatever issues stops the Kobo recognising the original ePub. If nothing else it could be worth a try...

I suspect a badly formatted book and to do what davidfor says about using Calibre to do an epub-to-epub conversion and try loading that new book to the reader. I've opened some pretty large epubs in the Glo just for testing and have never had a problem with any of them.

Thanks for the replies all!

Hmm... after all that I suspect it may be due to bad epub formatting too. I somehow managed to get it to appear but then the DRM went wonky & told me I had no rights to it (I can open the book on the desktop ADE). I usually load all my ebooks into Calibre to DeDRM them, maybe it being stripped of DRM did it in. So I am going to try to reauthorize my Kobo. If that doesn't work... I will try the epub to epub conversion (which is actually my go-to for missing covers), will need to leave it on I guess because the last time I tried epub-to-epub it was onwards 20minutes and still going on but I had to stop it as I needed to run off somewhere.

If you can de DRM the book you could also use the ePub split calibre plugin to convert to separate books.
