I'd like that to happen. I really want a 3G Voyage but I want them to improve it first. Time will tell.

Won't that depend on how many people are convinced that it's the other Voyage features that make it premium - the page buttons, the auto-adjusting light level and that old favourite - the Amazon eco-system.

None of the above would convince me but I've never been a Kindle user, so hardly their target market.

Probably price. The Glo HD is designed to be a Voyage killer. They want to keep the price down. Re: the flush bevel, yes I like it, but only so I could have text going from edge to edge without an elevated bevel blocking the text. With the Voyage, they added buttons to get round the potential problem of accidental page turns (if it is a problem). Personally, I would have liked the flush bevel for the reason I stated. Though that only works if you can reduce the margins to zero. But I think the Kobo can run Coolreader, so that would work.

I thought the Aura has a flat screen as it is capactive. You couldn't have a flat screen with IR, and capactive needs a extra layer over the screen and that's why the Aura screen isn't very good. In that case it makes sense that Kobo has stuck with IR and a sunken screen.

Noticed it too. Kindle font Only Bold and Bold Italic.

Have you tried these files? They work fine on my Kobo Glo. Including TypeGenius (if the firmware is properly patched) if TTF flavour is used.

These fonts are not based on the Kindle fonts as they had quite a few errors. Fixing (renaming the font name and style internally) didn't really work. Instead of investigating what caused these issues I chose to generate the font myself using the font supplied with Windows and made all fonts a little bolder (+9) to mimic the Kindle fonts which were a bit bolder.

Generating the fonts (ttf and otf) gave some error messages. The Windows had only 'kerning' issues. The Kindle font had kerning and language issues. Note I didn't fix the kerning errors.

Code:
[FATAL] <Constantia> GPOS feature 'kern' causes overflow of offset to a subtable (0x18940)

[WARNING] <Constantia-Bold> [internal] Feature block seen before any language system statement. You should place languagesystem statements before any feature definition [E:/Documents/FontLab/Studio 5/fontlab.fea 214]
[FATAL] <Constantia-Bold> GPOS feature 'kern' causes overflow of offset to a subtable (0x22e1e)

Do many people find that the flush bezel design on Aura HD causes problems with accidental page turns?

Given the design of the Glo HD, I can easily see it as also belonging to the Aura line since it does rather look like a smaller H2O just without the card slot and the port cover.

Sure, the other features count, but the screen is the most important feature. Plus the Kobo (probably) has a better front-light and better font and formatting options...and with the lower cost? It's serious competition to the Voyage. I think Amazon will have to respond. Mind you, Kobo has little presence in stores in the USA.

Do you mean the Aura? The Aura HD doesn't have a flush bezel.

Lets be careful. Just because you have the font in YOUR Windows or OS/X installation does not mean you are legally allowed to replicate that font to other people or systems.

Take a look at http://www.microsoft.com/typography/...y.aspx?FID=304 where the options listed are
  • License the fonts for Enterprises, Web Developers, Hardware/Software redistribution or Server installation
  • Purchase and download Microsoft fonts for personal, professional or business use on workstations

What I find strange is that the GLO HD is being actively released in the US and before Europe. I don't think Kobo have done this before have they?

And what I'm really anoyed about is that I can't even look at it on a kobo web page as i'm in the UK and everytime I click a kobo link it tells me the page is unavailable!

If you meant the Aura (the Aura HD is an IR touch device), my wife has noted at times that her fingers have wandered into the screen area triggering page turns.
