Kobo is not going to remove "Document defaults".

I got bold instead of regular too. I deleted the bold variant, and I got regular. It seems the reader is picking up bold as default? (all files had kobo naming e.g. -Regular).

I noticed that Glo HD doesn't have a light button compared to the other Kobo eReaders. How does the light turn off on this reader?

EDIT No. 2: Okay, I added Constantia from the Kindle fonts package. It works -- and it's already my favorite font on the Glo, but you don't get Advanced Settings for it. I'm guessing that's probably normal for add-on fonts? -- at least for fonts that were made for the Kindle?

I'm not sure if advanced font control works for OTF fonts. I'll have to give it a try. There is a patch to allow advanced font control for side loaded fonts. Again, no idea if it works for side loaded OTF fonts.

The H2O doesn't have a light button either. Setting the light level to zero turn the light off.

Odd. I renamed the 4 files in the Constantia for Kindle package from Serif_xxxx.ttf to Constantia-xxxx.ttf, copied them to the fonts directory on my H20, power cycled the H2O and the variants seem to work quite happily. See attached screenshot as an example.

I just got an email from Kobo; a BOGO for romance ebooks. But further down the page:

"Kobo Aura + Classic Cover: Save $30. Just $129.99"

Phasing out the Aura in favor of the new Glo, perhaps?

Re: Constantia. In fw 3.12.1, everything works OK for me in a standard epub, but in kepub I get Bold where it should be Regular and BoldItalic where it should be Italic..

However most of my sideloaded fonts behave correctly in both epub and kepub. Maybe the internal naming in Constantia needs some experimentation ?

If you haven't done it yet, you should upgrade to FW 3.13.1. Kobo has increased the available number of font size steps in it. Now it's just impossible not finding a fully convenient font size, no matter how picky you are about it. (In fact, for me this is THE REASON to perform this upgrade, not the stats...)

I did try the OTF version of Constantia and the advancedfont control did not work. I then converted the OTF to TTF and added hinting and the advanced font control now works.

Constantia does look good on my H2O when the weight is upped a bit.

No, it will be the first new Glo since they came out with three new Aura models. It's an indication that there is room for something other than Auras in Kobo's e-ink reader line.

I have bought one and barely notice any fingerprints, no matter how intense I use the device. In my experience the bezel of the non HD Glo and the H2O have been the real fingerprint collectors.

Then it's good to have choices You get what you want, I get what I want. As I said in the part of my post that you didn't quote:

Fortunately, it looks like Kobo realizes this and is making devices to keep both of us happy. It's all win, as far as I can see.

Some sideloaded OTF fonts work OK with Advanced font control, some don't. 'Twas ever thus.
