Why would you say that? Potentially a smidge slower, but why wouldn't you compare it to the Voyage and tell people they can basically the same thing for a much lower price. Obviously the screen helps them significantly against the PW, but if I was Kobo I'd be comparing myself the Voyage while pointing out to PW buyers they could get a lot nicer screen/light for the same $.

Amazon still hasn't released the Voyage in Canada. I've been waiting to upgrade for the screen resolution, now I will definitely look into getting a Kobo Glo HD.
Perhaps Kobo is comparing to the Paperwhite since the Voyage isn't available in some of Kobo's key markets. |

In my opinion, the glo HD should have the advantage of having a clearer screen. I think the voyage has an extra screen layer to make that "flat bezel." Maybe I'm wrong. I can't wait to see comparison videos. I actually like having a raised bezel for my hands to rest without accidentally turning pages.

And, more than just the functionality there is the upscale presentation/packaging: magnesium casing, thinness, sensors, paging buttons... Some products sell on functionality alone but others sell sizzle and exclusivity/rarity along with the functionality. Voyage is the latter, a luxury product. Think: Cadillac vs Chevy. |

And also the Amazon ecosystem. Amazon Prime, KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited.

But most importantly is the reading experience. What sort of experience can you have with a Glo HD vs the Voyage? You can have a better reading experience with the Glo HD because you are not locked into the limited options the Voyage has.
Plus, in Canada, the best Kindle is the PW2. So I do think the Glo HD will outsell the PW2 in Canada. Also, in Canada, if you use Overdrive, you cannot borrow Kindle eBooks so you are best with an ePub capable Reader. |

The Voyage is 162 mm x 115 mm x 7.6 mm.
The Glo HD is 157 mm x 115 mm x 9.2mm. Is anybody really going to notice a difference of 1.6mm? Last edited by JSWolf; 04-08-2015 at 01:38 PM. |

I think you've got that backwards then. Although I don't know if a difference of 2mm is really all that important once you get to the >10mm range. Not sure what the difference between magnesium and plastic is although I know the expensive cameras use magnesium bodies. I think the two big things that everyone really cares about are the resolution and light. The Glo HD matches the Voyage on one and I guess we'll just have to wait and see about the other. If I were considering a Voyage then I would definitely be taking a look at this reader as well. Is the price difference $60 plus the $20 ads fee?

One thing I am really interested to see a comparison of is the front light. Given Kobo reputation of getting it right the first time, I do expect the front light to be better. As for the price, at a grand total of $159.99 for the Go HD + Kobo's Glo HD case, it puts the price of the Voyage to shame especially since the Voyage is more expensive than the Glo HD + case. |

And will people notice the difference? Yes, some will. I know I would if I swapped between them. But, the exact shape of the back and edges will probably have more effect on the feel than the difference in thickness. |
