Editing built-in plugins?

Is it possible to edit the built-in read metadata plugins?

calibre is open source. You can edit any part of it, read the user manual section on setting up a development environment.

While that went quite poorly for me, and I just finished reinstalling windows, I appreciate the quick response.

Plan to try and alter how metadata is read from cbr and cbz archives so I can get my comics moved into calibre.
