E-readers make it easy to:
  • Consult reference materials while reading (e.g., dictionaries, encyclopedias, and translators), which is especially helpful when on-the-go. Was a great help when reading Cormac McCarthy's The Border Trilogy, which is rife with Mexican Spanish dialogue and vocabulary.

  • Get books to buy or borrow.

I guess I would be upset by constant interruptions from email etc while trying to read. I just turn off all connection options when I want to read. When I want to connect, I turn it on again lol.

Best of all worlds for me. Uninterrupted reading and possible connection when I desire it

I guess it depends where you're reading. I spend a lot of time in Egypt, where the sun is so intense that even in the shade it can be very difficult to see the screen on my iPad, but my eInk Kindle is perfectly readable.

Same here. If someone recommends a book or I hear about a book that I might like, I can get it right then and there. One of my former co-workers just put a book up on Amazon a few weeks ago (Void Boundary by Joseph Hitt for those interested). He told me about it at lunch and I was able to buy the book and download it as we were talking.

I concede the point that someone who plans on doing a lot of reading outdoors in Egypt should probably not consider an LCD device as their primary ereader.

I, on the other hand, can count the pages I've read outdoors in the last two decades on two hands.
(and no, I don't avoid the great outdoors; I'm just rarely sitting down--or even stationary--when I'm out in it)

I have been reading outside on my E-ink device and had to come inside because it got too hot to hold.

This is (just) in the south end of the San Francisco Bay area.

Egypt ?

There is a new device called "book", which is made out of paper because that conducts the heat less.
Well, until Fahrenheit 451, that is ...
