White Kindle launched in China?
Please see the image attached.

It's the basic version of Kindle which has no back light. (The one sells $79 in US)

Now it's in pre-order status, and the website says it will be shipped on April 8th.

I am not sure if this is an April Fool's Day joke by Amazon-CN.

According to the post I found, there is no more information about when will it come to US, or if Kindle Voyage/Paperwhite will also have the white version.

I think it's odd that Amazon went away from the choice of white Kindles. They seemed fairly popular -- though I would prefer the black ones myself.

Amazon do a lot of market research; they've presumably launched a white Kindle because that research has shown a demand for it. Apple sell black or white iPads, for the same reason.

I wouldn't mind a Kindle with a white front. Then they can just have an option to reduce the margins to zero and use the plastic frame as the margin.

As I understand it there are two reasons for appliances like stereos and ereaders to be black. 1) Dirt doesn't show up as well on dark things (unlike things like white tennis shoes for example) and 2) Black is easy to color co-ordinate with most other colors. I can't see a white kindle catching on quite as well as some might think myself.

Black has negative connotations in Chinese and Japanese culture. My parents would not want a black Kindle for that reason, and they grimace whenever their Westernized child wears black clothes or buys black things (black Kindle, black Sony, black iPhone ... )

Color has many meanings, and black is not universally bad, but as far as marketing goes, I think these sites are reflect my parent's discomfort with black:
