Bargain @ 99 cents from BookViewCafé as one of their monthly specials, IIRC, so probably expiring today (March 31st), DRM-free choice of ePub or Mobi available worldwide:

Guardian of the Balance by Irene Radford (ISFDB), 1st in her Merlin's Descendants series of Arthurian-derivative high fantasy novels, this installment originally out from DAW Books in 1999.

Merlin’s daughter must help both her father and King Arthur demonstrate to warring barons and invading Saxons that Honor, Truth and Promises are meant to be kept; Justice, Peace, and Law must prevail

Caught between her beloved father, the Merlin of Britain, and Arthur Pendragon, the old ways and the new, Wren must find a way to balance the forces of Chaos with peace.

She nurtures the land and the people, creating a haven for anyone displaced by the turbulence. And for the safety of all she must guard her heart against the deep love she shares with Arthur, a married king who holds the future of all the Britains in his hands and his sword.

Book description
Captain John “Black Jack” Geary’s legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic “last stand” in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance Fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndic.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance’s one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic “Black Jack” legend...

The new Humble Bundle is up for the Humble Sci-Fi Book Bundle 2 presented by WordFire Press:

It's mostly newer indie stuff by established sfnal authors, but there are some backlist reprint titles by authors like Jody Lynn Nye (ISFDB, Wikipedia), Mike Resnick (ISFDB, Wikipedia), the late Frank Herbert (ISFDB, Wikipedia), and Dave Wolverton (ISFDB, Wikipedia) writing as David Farland.

Copy-paste contents (current better-than-average is just under $10 (with more titles to be added next Wednesday), top-tier is $15 which disappointingly seems to consist of mainly tie-in novellas):

Quote:
Name your price for The Dark Lady: A Romance of the Far Future, The Golden Queen, The Ferryman & the Flame 1: Surrender, Lifeline, Ocean, and Second Paradigm.

If you pay more than the average price, you'll also get Assemblers of Infinity, Working Stiff: The Cases of Dan Shamble, Zombie PI, Five By Five 3: Target Zone, Mythworld: The Festival of Bones, Mythology 101, and The Godmakers.

If you pay $15 or more, you'll receive all of the above plus Beasts of Tabat, Drumbeats, and Veiled Alliances: A Prequel Novella to the Epic Space Opera The Saga of Seven Suns.
A fair amount of these have been offered free or as part of previous StoryBundles in the past, so you might already have a significant overlap of titles if you've been getting the latter.

Speaking of StoryBundle, they currently have 2 sfnal offerings:
  • Time Travel Bundle ends in 8 days.

Pay what you want tier for 5 titles including a Kevin J. Anderson novel, $14 or more for an additional 6 titles including a backlist novel by Lisa Mason (ISFDB, Wikipedia), and some Kristine Kathryn Rusch (former editor of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, as well as a noted trad-published author in her own right before starting up her own indie imprint and online sf magazine).
  • Crossing Worlds YA Bundle ends in 15 days.

Pay what you want tier for 5 titles, $12 or more for an additional 4 titles, including a Mercedes Lackey (ISFDB, Wikipedia) story set in her Elemental Masters universe (NB: this appears in her Baen-published story collection, which if you're not interested in any of the other YA titles, is cheaper and couponable at Kobo), and get 1 more for subscribing to the newsletter.

Last edited by ATDrake; 04-01-2015 at 05:52 PM. Reason: Fix top-tier price, which is actually lower than what I typed.

I'm probably going to get the bottom tier just for The Dark Lady by Resnick, but doubt I'll bother with the middle tier, and definitely not interested in the top tier at $15.

This month, Phoenix Pick's free book of the month is Code of the Lifemaker by James P. Hogan.

Quote:
Long ago, an alien “searcher” ship flew too close to a star gone nova. Though heavily damaged, the ship landed on one of Saturn’s moons, Titan.

Attempting to fulfill its original function of seeding suitable planets for exploitation, the ship creates a bewildering society of self-replicating machines that gives rise to a bizarre ecosystem and culture with intelligent beings and organically grown houses.

The intelligent beings are known as Taloids and they have developed their own brand of religion around a mythical figure, a creator of machines, and hence, life.

When humans descend from the sky, the Taloids see them as those creators.

However, powerful financial and industrial interests are all set to exploit the moon and the Taloids to maximize Titan’s vast production potential and the future for the Taloids looks grim.

But they find a champion from an unexpected source. Karl Zambendorf is a “psychic” who has wrangled a place aboard the human mission to Titan. And when all of man’s forces are conspiring to ruthlessly exploit Titan and the Taloids, Zambendorf becomes their champion and in the process challenges not only the religious imperatives of the Taloids, but the core of our own beliefs as well.
Additionally there are two other deals, the first includes the above book as well as two additional books by Hogan and is available for a minimum price of $5.99 (Suggested price: $10.00). Those are:

The Immortality Option
Spoiler:
Quote:
“[Hogan] once again demonstrates his mastery”
—Publishers Weekly

“... on the cutting edge of technology ... Hogan’s talent carries the reader from peak to peak in the story” —Booklist

“In the grand tradition of the classic super-science stories, but with more exciting science and with better writing too. What more can anyone want?” —Isaac Asimov

In this spectacular sequel to the acclaimed Code of the Lifemaker, James Hogan returns to the strange world of Titan, inhabited by bizarre self-conscious robots.

Little is known about the civilization that gave birth to these machine intelligences until scientists discover blocks of embedded computer code that appear to be strangely out of place.

Reactivating the computer codes results in the re-awakening of ancient alien beings, creators of the strange robot culture, totally alien and immensely powerful. And they are unhappy at being restrained within the narrow confines of the machines they find themselves in. They would much rather be the masters of all.

But while the scientists are helpless against these mighty beings, Karl Zambendorf, the media-star “psychic” and his support team prepare to meet the challenge.

The alien intelligences might be intellectually superior and super rational, but this also makes them hyper-materialistic and mechanistic in their outlook and, hence, totally unprepared for such “higher” concepts as the spiritual, the mystical, and the transcendental. And selling such notions is precisely Zambendorf’s stock in trade.

The Multiplex Man
Spoiler:
Quote:
Winner of the Prometheus Award for Best Novel

Who is Richard Jarrow?

Is he the unassuming, mild-mannered teacher he thinks himself to be or something much more?

And how does the brilliant scientist named Ashling fit into the picture?

The Multiplex Man is an intriguing thriller set in a future where every aspect of life on Earth is micromanaged by authorities who consider any deviation from the prescribed path as dangerous.

Off-world colonies are considered dangerous enemies threatening to take Earth’s precious resources .

Jarrow must find Ashling, who holds the key not only to Jarrow’s own identity but to freedom itself.

The second deal does not include Code of the Lifemaker, but includes the first three issues of Galaxy's Edge Magazine for just $4.50. Contents of those include:

The Shoulders of Giants by Robert J. Sawyer
Schrödinger’s Cathouse by Kij Johnson

Just a Second by Lou J. Berger
Act of God by Jack McDevitt

Amazon US has a Joe Abercrombie ebook bundle called The Great Leveller for $11.99

It's actually Best Served Cold, Red Country and The Heroes bundled in one.

The bundle price is pretty good considering each individual book is $9.99.
