The note when I logged in to see if it was going to auto-sign me up said it would charge me IF I stored anything from this point on. Also, from checking with friends, if you have prime, you won't get an email (no one I know has gotten an email that has prime. Yet.) |

I suspect the mailing feature to continue as it did--just without the archiving to cloud part. At the very least, I'd expect a separate email/announcement that the emailing feature (and my kindle's email address) was going away. |

Can't speak to the UK--but the notice when I was logged in to check my account/files mentioned that if you have prime, you're basically not affected--well, I updated this below because there is a bit of a change. I do not have ANY idea what happens if you cancel prime. I do have some kindle books up there and I can access those (and the note said I would be able to access anything already up there without a "plan." But if I want to put anything else up there it said I would have to choose a plan.
Okay from other posters, updated to add: PRIME is affected in that they can have unlimited photos but only 5GB storage included for OTHER things like video and I assume documents/backup/music. Last edited by BearMountainBooks; 03-27-2015 at 01:04 PM. |

Nope.. I've got Prime and received the email this morning. Don't use the storage much, but my Fire Phone backs up all the photos and I find that very useful.

Drive space IS cheap (US$60 for 1T
![]() But Backups need to be Safe. Preferably (way) Off-Site, not subject to a local disaster. (Fire or Flood) Preferably, not made in/with the same hardware (a hardware fault may ripple to the backup drive) Still, I am not a fan of these 'free' Clouds. What ELSE are they doing with your data?? |

I have Prime and the following is my email from Amazon:
Thanks for being an Amazon Cloud Drive customer! Amazon Cloud Drive is introducing new unlimited storage plans. You can save all your photos plus 5 GB for videos and files in one place with the Unlimited Photos plan which is free with your Prime membership. If you have more than photos that you need to keep safe, the Unlimited Everything plan is perfect for all your photos, videos, files, and documents, for $59.99/year. What happens to my current plan? All of the files you have previously stored in Cloud Drive are still accessible, and since you are a Prime member, you automatically receive Unlimited Photos benefits for free. Can I change plans now? Yes, you can upgrade to the Unlimited Everything plan and start the 3-month free trial. |

It isn't fair to put it mildly. Some of us have limited incomes and another bill just to access what we were given in the 1st place isn't at all fair. It's $11.99/year for 5GB and $59.99 a year for unlimited space. At the least they could expand the $11.99/year to 20 GB I would think. They already charge for music files that are greater than 250 in number. The only nice thing is that it doesn't start charging til 3 months have gone by (free trial).

FYI: The SendToKindle feature worked for me.
The file is on my Kindle, but not in the cloud. |
