I suspect it's nowhere close to as morbid as you think...

I agree, sort of, because

everything seemed very rushed after that scene. Almost as if the author had expect to have a lot more pages to work with for the last part of the story, and had to cut out or fast-forward several plot elements towards the end.

About purchases, I was in the mood to replace some of my old JAK (and I found that, in Spain, the price was about a third of the SA price and the generic Kobo coupon works ). And, about reading, I got "Rock Hard" at the library, I read it in a day and later I read "Rock Addition" (yes, not the right order but an usual order for me). I like much more the second book in the series.

Romantic Suspense used to be a Silhouette line. It was originally called Intimate Moments and covered a wide range of topics. I think it was THE best category line in the late 80s through 90s. I loved the variety and they had such a great line-up of authors.

The main difference now I think it the Intrique line concentrates more on the actual mystery/suspense part of the story and Romantic Suspense is more about the romance. Romantic Suspense also tends to have more international set stories with spies and intelligence agents. Whereas more Intrique are set only in the US or Canada. But that perception may just be based on the authors I read, not an actual rule.

Police (detectives, cops, etc) seem pretty evenly divided between them. Plus, since Harlequin bumped the wordcount back up, the Romantic Suspense stories are longer. Intrigues are around 55,000-60,000 whereas Romantic Suspense is 70,000-75,000.
