Android with good highlight managements
HI,
i posted recently on the wrong subforum here it is in short what i need. as i use ereaders mainly to study I highlight and make notes, my sony is too old now to support the thousands of highlights I did it. 1)I need to search all the notes highlights on a global level( all the book togheter), 2)and when i consult them I want to see the highlights entire in all their lenght without cut, 3)so that I can eventually click one highlight/note go to the page and go back exactly to the highlight notes index to proceed my study. I have a sony prs t2 not rootable that do this, but.. 4)I want also google play, 5) and a smoother experience( more ram and a processor faster that is not afraid of thousands of notes), 6)also i would love dutch-english and english- italian dictionaries, 7) if the screen is with light inbuilt even better thank you |

Does it support multiple dictionaries, as the OP requested?

to both question. I am pretty sure: yes, but to be 100% go to mantano support site and ask them directly.
https://mantano.desk.com/ from that link you can download the user manual which shoudl provide more answers. PS only the premium version allows you to see all notes/highlights across all books in a single view. I know that you can add dictionaries & thesaurus, it's a bit geeky 1st time around but well documented if you google how: you get the free colordict app from google play then use that to index additional dictionaries https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rdict&hl=en_GB there is also an old MR thread here, but the mantano app has had 3 years to eveolve since this thread was created: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/arc.../t-156749.html |

Amazon kindle fire is your other shortlist option. Amazon put all your reader notes onto a personal web page for easy access, and they have lots of optional dictionaries. But you are now moving to azw / mobi formats to use the amazon world. You also get their unique x-ray facility for most, not all books.
They may limit size of any one highlight, note.... you can actually run mantano premium on KF but it needs a geeky maneuver of buy on some other tablet, then sideload to get around amazon store restrictions ( they don't like the competition). they don't allow google play store either - another potential showstopper for you. I'ts a lovely tablet though. and there's this: ( link to evernote) http://lifehacker.com/send-your-kind...-to-1603016995 Last edited by cybmole; 03-06-2015 at 04:34 AM. |

Kindle.amazon.com does not do #2, from what I've heard. It shortens some highlights on the main display, I've heard.

Maybe it used to be truncated at one point, but don't see it or have not reached the limit. |

i'm confused by the OP wanting full database control over notes & highlights then saying it must not be built in sqlite (post #4) ?
Surely that IS the defacto tool for databases, and has been around long enough to be pretty robust ? What is he expecting his ideal solution to use instead ? |

I mean, sqlite has some limits? I see has 140 Tera limits, that is more than 300 reincarnations. But I am puzzled that such a small db, with less than 1k code can store all these data without performance issues, also probably there is a content provider inside that should optimize with loaders patterns the velocity, so I was wrong in asking these questions, but still why java developers use normal SQL, or reframing why SQL lite is not so popular outside android for desktop applications?I knew has some limitation like it has one JOIN instead of the three o more of SQL, but most of the databases do not need really advanced features i guess |

anyway thank you again, this is what i mean: http://www.tutorialspoint.com/sqlite...sing_joins.htm SQL standard defines three types of OUTER JOINs: LEFT, RIGHT, and FULL but SQLite only supports the LEFT OUTER JOIN |

I don't know what you mean by "PDF dictionary" and "lack of android open". If you are referring to Kobo ereaders, neither make any sense to me. Quote:

then i need the dutch-english dictionary, as I read dutch, and as most of my books are pdf, if i well recall when I avoided to buy the h20 the reason was i could not find a way to lookup words from Dutch to English in pdf documents, whereas with a Mantano app I have huge possibilities. All in all the default way to manage the highlights and notes especially combining them in their own fragment/activity is gorgeous on the last Kobo, you David and your team did a great job, and the home UI is so attractive and enjoyable, and the navigation was flaweless. I am really honored to speak with one of the Kobo developers indeed, the customization of the fonts with preview is a really cool feature, especially because as Italian i feel honored to see the benchmark with the old latin text, really bibliophil mktg choice, really smart. As soon as I will have android I will buy, if i well remember there was a root possible to make a dual boot, but is quite inefficient for me, as ereaders are still sluggish compared to my ipad and i7 reading experiences and waiting for a reboot could kill me. Although I would buy it if the device would have been open and with guarantee( i theorically can root my sony rt2 to put android, but I do not do because I am afraid i can brick it, and also is maybe time to have a more performing device. thanks again for your attention |
