Design and linguistic expression are to some of us important (to some possibly in excess)

In any case, the care should not be entirely inappropriate in MR. This can include improvements of own posts. But that is what can very quickly lead to incomprehensibility of the thread to later readers.

To help minimize this potential consequence I miss in the toolbar the tool 'Striket̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶'.

The message editor toolbar contains only the most commonly-used formatting options. A complete list of formatting codes, all of which can be added by hand, can be found here. The code for strikethrough is [strike]...[/strike].

The code-matter I remembered only when the post was already written. There is also a link at the end of paragraph Posting New Messages.

And then I found but only of page Send New Private Message the Posting Rules where the entry BB code is On is linked with the corresponding BB Code List.

However, that's missing on pages Post New Thread and Reply to Thread.
Should these not even been shown here as well (they are collapsible/foldable).

Otherwise I would met alone with BB Code, would be fine and didn't open this thread.

I totally would not mind the existence of another option here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/pro...do=editoptions for "super-duper editing toolbar, deluxe edition". It would include, like, everything, and be essential to people who use exotic bbcode.

Ideally I would like to be able to configure my own.

FWIW - I use the Custom Tags feature of BBCodeExtra extension for Firefox for things like this - and for things like Ψ² and ¿

For Chrome there's the BBCodeInsert extension - I've not tried its customisation capabilities.

Let me clarify - I use BBCodeExtra (0.4.1) in Firefox (36.0.1) on Windows (7 Professional 64-bit SP1)

The BBCodeExtra context menu items only show up in edit boxes - like this one, just like Language and Case Change only show up in Edit boxes.

I've been using BBCodeExtra for years - and as far as I can remember its been ever thus.

Your mileage obviously does vary - must the fracking gas you're using over there

I am far from familiar with the intricacies of the English language: essential as significant within the meaning of vital (to those people) ... So far I would not go.

The self configured toolbar as a (future)-option.

Good idea - but I'd leave the explanations/examples as is, one often knows what one wants but not the right word

On other boards (phpBB I think) what's 'spoiler' here is 'hide' there and strikeout is [s] whereas here its [strike].

I may have spoken hastily.

I distinctly remember -- or I thought I did -- an extension that added a browser toolbar. Sadly, I no longer have any idea what I may have been talking about. I cannot even find an extension that matches the image I had in my head.
And if it comes to that, I appear to have BBCodeExtra installed without even realizing it -- it is at this point that I finally decided I may have lost my mind.

That being said, I still wouldn't say no to a forum update, but, really, I think I will just withdraw now and try to forget this...

My suggestion to use BBCodeExtra wasn't intended to suggest I don't support the idea of extra buttons in the boards tool bars - more like while you're waiting for that to happen... that said the only button I use up there is the paper clip.

I understood your suggestion as a while-you-wait, I just figured I'd withdraw in the hopes of forgetting that I had the darn thing installed and not realizing!

Right. I am Chrome fan! In the particular application situation of writing a post the MR BBCode list seems to me (much) more suitable, however.
To respond further to that Chrome provided thing would remove us from the original topic of this thread, therefore I renounce. It would also be only a specific Chrome user matter.

BBCodeXtra is an extension, compatible with Mozilla FireFox ...

To show all (BBCode list and explanations) expands the matter, so I thought. Each of us has anyway 'specific preferences' in the use. It's all about the quick access to the correct (boilerplate) code. E.g. me it was important code for 'Striket̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶'.
The list should be modified including a concession to the comfort-seekers among us. This means the code should be written in full. Thus instead of [strike].

In order to accommodate those with request for explanations we would have to ask our dear MR system specialists for a special sweet. A double fold-out thing: First only just pure code, expandable by unfolding the explanations.
No, you have misunderstood me, this is my full seriousness.
Please note that I do not represent anymore my original interest here: The strikethrough code is already firmly engraved in my head for the next hundred years.

Would not be bad if you try out this toolbar (and show us). Might still be good for an idea. Quite right of Text Formatting Toolbar 0.1.4.12 I see a BBCode button!?

On the other hand there is still lot of space on the existing MR toolbar. Align Right and Align Center buttons are unnecessary. Former I've never seen in 1000 posts in use, the latter belongs more to a poetry department. Consequently Align Left could be eliminated as the default setting.

I think that BBCode button you see in Text Formatting Toolbar allows you to switch between BBCode, HTML... and Wiki maybe. I prefer not to install this extension as I would never use it, I use the context menu via the menu key almost exclusively. Why don't you install Firefox as an alternate browser?

BTW: BBCodeExtras also has XHTML and Markdown flyout submenus available, but I suppress them via its settings.

One of the problems with changing existing toolbars (on anything) is that some people 'know' the button they want by its position (e.g. its the 5th button in the second row) or its juxtaposition (e.g. its the one to the right of the smiley button).

One idle thought I had was to give the smileys panel a tabbed interface - Smileys and More Buttons

On a couple of phpBB boards I frequent, the bbcode for strikeout is [s]...[/s]
