As always I have a huge TBR list, however I there's some books I like to reread from time to time.
I re-read Lord of the rings and The Hobbit every few years. I reread some other books every now and then on an adhoc basis. |

Now that so many old series are available as ebooks I've been buying and reading whole series. Most of them are a combination of books I read a long time ago and books that I've never read.
I think I probably started moving from Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys to "adult" mysteries when I was about ten (which would have been in 1954). Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, Patricia Wentworth, Michael Innes, etc. were still writing then and I read what was available in my small-town library. Sometime in the sixties, after I left school and moved to a larger city, I started buying books, mostly current paperbacks, eventually adding in hardcovers and searching out mystery bookstores (or general bookstores with large mystery sections) in any city I visited. Used-books (and browsing in most of the stores that sell them) have generally been off-limits to me bedause of allergies. Because of space limitations and moving costs I did a lot of donating and some re-buying. I never did end up with any whole series at once. Having most of my favorite old series wholly available as ebooks is amazing! I suppose that most people in generations later than mine take this for granted and only buy or borrow books as they're ready to read them. I feel compelled to buy and hoard. ![]() |

I re-read my favorites when I've forgotten many of the aspects of the stories.
And then I re-read some books I didn't like but which had potential, in the hope that it was my mood or age, that affected my opinion of it. |

Not often. I used to re-read through necessity. But now I have my TBR organised, I always have a new book to read.
I suspect that I will re-read more when my TBR is a bit smaller. |

Books that I keep re-reading (no matter how long my TBR list gets):
- Lord Of The Rings saga (Tolkien) - The Dark Tower saga (King) - A Song Of Ice And Fire series (Martin) - De Ontdekking van de Hemel (Discovery of Heaven, Mulisch) - Anathem (Stephenson) The first three are real time wasters though ![]() After multiple re-reads of Donaldson's White Gold books, they seem to have lost their draw. That was another time sink ![]() Hmmm... How can I forget Robin Hobb's books - which have all (except for the Soldier Son trilogy) been read multiple times. I reread quite a lot... often, it's all I do.
To be honest, I should stop doing this, because I get distracted very easily and go do other stuff when rereading books I remember very well. (It is the same when replaying well-known games.) I have noticed that I read -A LOT- quicker when reading new books. I've started a book before going to sleep yesterday (my first book in 2015... don't ask), and I'm already at 10%. It's a 350 page book. |

I re-read. No matter how many books I've not yet read. I'm currently re-reading the Harry Potter series, and after that I'll start on Julian May's Milieu's Trilogy (already re-read the Pleistocene books last year). I finally have them all in electronic form...
I mostly re-read when I've no idea what book to read next (genre, mostly). So, I'll grab a book I know I'll love. |

Why don't you use the "Choose Random Book" in Calibre and read the book it selects? If it selects a book in the middle of a series or universe, select the first book in that series or universe that is not out of order compared to your earlier reads.

I might, since I stopped reading for a while. I generally don't, though.

I'll be only re-reading then... My calibre doesn't contain to-be-read books (unless it's one of a series I'm currently reading, such as the rest of my HP's and those four books by May), only read books and books I've not yet finished but have started....

I don't really like to re-read. I have a couple of absolute favourite books I'll occasionally go back and re-read from time to time (This Perfect Day in particular) and I enjoyed reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo a second time, but I'm not sure I'd go back and read it again... I can see the "comfort" appeal, but then I get that kind of comfort feeling when I pick up a book by certain favourite authors, and a new story from them is always more appealing than re-reading an old one.

I don't really have a TBR list but I do reread books, probably about 20% of the time.

I re-read. I also read several books at a time, and at the moment they are about half new and half re-reads. If I really like a book, I want to experience it again and catch the bits that I hurried through the first time to get to the end of the main part of the story.
I also delete freebies, based on whether or not I'll read them again. I hope to someday get to where I can delete books that I've paid for but don't want to read again. At the moment, I just let them clutter my library and don't go back to them. |

I often re-read books I've loved, especially if in need of a comfort read. I've re-read Lonesome Dove so many times that I may never be able to forget it just enough to read it once more.

I re-read frequently despite having a large TBR pile (both e- and paper).
I'm the same! Can't help myself. |
